Lowrance lms 522c questions

tdk

Question

I'm looking at a new depth finder/gps. Currently looking at a 522c. My question is, does the screen(color) get hard to see in bright sun light. Plus how well does the gps work with a internal antenna? The reason I'm looking at this one is that I have two boats and would like to be able to use it in both. Any relies would be appreciated. Thanks

tdk,

The screen itself is easy to see in bright sunlight. I've still got mine, but I've moved it to my bow. The screen was simply too small to see with any detail the GPS map side of the screen, even when GPS was in full screen. I rarely fish from my console seat, so I bought another Lowrance with a larger screen. If you're always relatively close to it, it's a good unit.

I don't know about the internal antenna as I have it connected to a puck in the back of boat. I've heard there can be issues, esp. if you've got a full windshield.

I put 522C's in all my rental boats last spring. Seem to be good quality units. One is in a runabout with a full windshield and have had no issues with the internal antenna. As stated, screen size is a little small it you are sitting in the bow but for the price, I don't know if you will find a better deal. You will need to buy a chip for it also.

antenna works just fine. Been thinking about that myself. I know a couple of guys who have them and all they do is zoom in and out. Example you dont have to look at whole lake when your out just where your at.
