Need some advice. I am celebrating my 20 year anniversary and want to surprise my bride with a weekend on the north shore. Does anyone have any leads as to a great place to stay, things to do? It would be around June 10th? I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks, Hound Heater Guy

Eastbay Suites in Grand Marais !!!!! - simply awesome. Right on the lake, downtown GM. Eat at the Angry Trout, head up the gunflint for some fabulous hiking. Lots of great shopping also in GM. Everything you need in the best town on the north shore.

If you want something a little different, you can try Spruce Falls Cabins. They are in Lutsen, just south of Cascade Resort/Restaurant.

They have 5 cabins that are right on the lake, with a creek running alongside. It's not a B&B, but it is more private than a resort type place. You have your own cabin, modestly outfitted with everything you need to be comfortable. No TV's or anything, but you don't need it.

You can cook there, or go out to eat. There are fireplaces and you can have fires out on the rocks/shoreline. You're about 20 minutes from Grand Marais, 5 minutes from Cascade State Park, 20 minutes from Superior National Golf...you get the point.

We have gone there for years and it's been one of most favorite spots on the shore. Quiet, relaxing, romantic etc.

I also would like to put in a big thumbs up for Blue Fin Bay. I will be there June 5th to the 8th for our 5 year. Great Place in a great location. It is about 30 miles from Grand Marias. When I made my reservation they had a stay 2 nights get one free for that time of year.

Blue Fin also has a couple of restuarants that are top notch.

If you go into Grand Marias and like donuts don't miss out on the Worlds Best Donut shop behind the SA. Their names says it all.
