Smellson
Im trying to decide between putting my Fl-18 up in the front or if I would be better off putting my other graph up there? What do most of you prefer? Thanks
Esox_Magnum
I run my Marcum with my Expedition on my bow. Does what I need, shows me depth and shows where I'm at.
cjac
I put my FL-18 on the bow a few years ago and have really liked it and learned a lot! I can tell depth, weed growth/height, and the general structure shape, I do this working an edge while casting for muskies. If I'm vertical jigging eyes you can mark fish just like on hard water. I really like it. I also have my Lowrance H20 handheld GPS on the bow, so I feel like I'm getting the info I need and using the gear I already have. Sure I'd love a graph/combo, but I use what I have and can afford and feel I'm doing just fine with it. Takes a little practice, but it serves me well. menomax
Smellson--I used to run the flasher (FL-8) on the bow. I ran into several issues with the this:1. Sunlight- I had issues reading the flasher when in direct sunlight or at an angle.2. Relating the depth with the position of the boat and being able to get back to that area. 3. Always having to have my eyes on the flasher. If I took my eyes off the flasher, because it was real time, I found that I missed small humps or small structure changes. I fish the river alot and fish really relate to small humps. What I like about the graph is that I can change the scroll speed based on the speed of of the boat. And with the new graphs, it is all real time.Either way it is something that you have to match to how you fish. I fished with a guide on Winnie- all he used was a hand held GPS and a flasher--and we limited out.
PerchJerker
I stopped using a flasher on my boat several years ago. IMO a graph will do everything a flasher will for you and more (especially if you have a color graph). The most obvious advantage to a graph is you can take your eyes off it and when you look back the history is there so you can see if you missed anything important. A common argument I hear against a graph is the "instant display" on a flasher. I don't put any stock in that argument at all, the right edge of any modern graph diplay will the readings just as fast as a flasher will.Bottom line is they both work fine, it comes down to personal preference and what your budget allows. Kyle Sandberg
Get a graph. Like said above the history feature is better than none and I like to even verticle jig with mine and watch the lure. makes me wish open water was here.
Sifty
I have a flasher up front and really like it.But both will work fine. Go with what you are more comfortable using.Sifty
