D4 Army
I want to buy one of these rods. What length would you recomend? The main use would be with Cowgirls, supergirls, bulldogs, larger baits like that. the 6 1/2 foot rod is killing me. I want a longer one but not sure exactly what. cjac
I'd say go at least 8' and would probably say 8'6" as the best option. The longer rod will load and make casting a lot easier for you. Chris
muskiedreams
gotta agree with cjac go longer before shorter last year got a 9' real nice but I think if you are gonna be throwing big blades most the time I would look at a few diffrent rods with softer tips. You can still trow the dogs but the tip is a [PoorWordUsage] of alot more forgiving on the arms with the big blades
muskyjim
D4 - i bought the 8' med hvy 11/4 to 7 oz. last year just for what you are talking about. throws those girls and dogs well. it has a nice bend and feel to it, doesn't feel like a 2x4. also works well for trolling giant crankbaits. either 8', 8.5', or 9' will work. how big is your rod locker or isn't that an issue? Scoot
How high off the water is the boat you are usually fishing out of? If it's way up high, you'll want to go longer. Also, as mentioned above, how long is the rod locker?
D4 Army
If I'm alone I fish out of my 14 footer. regular fishing boat with bench seats. Lame but works. otherwise a couple friends have bigger boats that I go with sometimes.
cjac
If rod storage ruled my selection I'd have nothing but pool cues..... Nothing lame about that boat, sometimes at the family cabin I take dad's 14 foot Lund with the 9.9 Johnson out instead of my main boat. It's just fun and brings me back to the ABCs of fishing. I've been outfished many times by my nephews who fish out of the little boat! Go 8'6" and you'll be glad you did. Longer casts, less fatigue, and bigger, deeper, faster figure 8s; those all will help put you in the position to catch more fish. Chris
D4 Army
thanks guys. I'll go with at least 8'. probably 8 1/2. I hope the muskie show has some deals.
cjac
Last year Thorne Bros had a deal on a Tica 8'6" Heavy telescoping handle rod with an Abu 7000 for around $180, pre-spooled. Other options are out there, check out the KT Professional Edge booth and ask about the Edge series rods. That rod will cover what you're looking for and can be custom built to EXACTLY meet your needs for around the same price as the Muskie Innovations rods. Shop around a bit and you'll go home happy.
