Portable Wiring help

Hello,

I am looking at connecting my lights to a switch and then to a battery so i don't have to clip the hooks everytime.

I was wondering if anyone out there could give me some pointers.

I tried doing this with just a cheap line/load switch from menards but it only seemed to work in the ON position, whenever i switched to off the black wire connection to the battery would start smoking...

I was wondering if i need to upgrade my switch for this to work.

Any help would be awesome!

You only need to split the current of 1 of the wires.Hook your black to your battery ground then split your red wire on the switch.One side to battery,the other side going to your lights.

You didn't fry your battery, did you?

nope - pretty sure the battery still works - only had it on for a second...new the smoke was not a good sign...

Batt. started to smoke? or the wires started to smoke?

I'd check the battery to see if it's in good condition.

Like wish said, all you have to do is split one of the wires for a simple on / off circuit.

It was the wire that did the smoking...was nice and hot to the touch.

they make dc switches that come as one unit[box&switch]and can be mounted anywhere. they are for finished walls.
