They are not the same. They do look similar except at the business end of the hook where the circle hook has a pronounced bend.

The circle hook is designed for fish who are running away from you with the bait and the hook self sets as pressure is slowly applied.

The Octopus hook is favored when a fish is running towards you or where a forceful hookset might be required.

Mrcarp I did'nt get to see your other post but iffin your talking Pikes and live bait I think you'd maybe wanna consider Kahle style hooks in a size appropriate for what ever the size baitfish your using. In my book these hook em up more reliably than circles, and like a circle hook more often then not right in the corner of the mouth.
