Hooked on Lakers

Outstanding! That's the only word than I can use to describe our Lake Trout fishing up in Ely this past weekend. Thanks to all of the FMers that I spoke with who were very cordial and helpful and also to Capt. Russ at Babes Bait in Ely, for without his guidance my trip would not have been so succesful. We didn't even take time out to socialize at the headquarters because we were busy punching holes and catching fish right up until dark. While we didn't catch any wall-hangers we did manage at least a dozen in the 2-6 pound range. It was just amazing. I've never fished for Lakers before and neither did my partner, but you never would have guessed it. Thanks again for this excellent venue for without it we never would have even considered this trip.

P.S. If you fish there and come up with a Canon digital camera, give me a shout.

Hi ThinICe,

I have not ever really fished lakers before but am really interested in heading up to Ely in search of them. Do you know if any of the lakes are safe to hold a pathfinder? I really would like to go but do not have a snowmobile or fourwheeler. Also, do you have any advice on where to start for lakes?

I saw plenty of folks cruising the area lakes this weekend. I would stop in at one of the local shops and check for info on specific areas, but I was drilling about 16" of ice in most places that I fished.

Make sure you talk to someone at a local bait shop because there is current in some of the lakes up here and dangerous ice areas to avoid. Have fun!!

There not the safest lakes to just go all over in a vehicle. Call the bait store first.
