CNY Lee
Do you guys think a high caliber pellet gun will kill a grey fox? I have some area's that I just don't trust shooting a 17hmr or 22. Most of my shots will be 20 yards or less.
fishermann222
use a .410 or 20 gauge if your worried about the distance of a rife.
picksbigwagon
shotgun would be my first choice. Yes, there are some mighty powerful pellet guns out there that would bring down a fox in it's tracks, but they are awfully spendy........
huntingmaxima
CNY, I deffinetly think it would kill a fox up close. My RWS travels at 1150fps.
fishermann222
CNY the bottomline is it would be easy to wound a fox with a pellet gun, sure you can kill one, close enough with a perfect shot, but I would not try it. In my mind you owe it to the animal to use the right tool for the cleanest, quickest kill.
ChompChomp_YANK
what about a 22 short ? i would use that before a pellet gun. or like fishermann says a .410 is all you need for close range.
Fullmoon
Hey Lee, I've got to agree, the only air gun I'd use would be one that contains it's air supply via a can and those are expensive. Even the 1600 FPS gamo really isn't enough for a fox at that range regardless of the pellet used, & there are some specially designed ones out there. If you've got a .22, there are some good short or CB loads available. They'd be quiet and not have the distance concerns associated with the other rifles. Got to agree that the .410 is a great choice as well. If you don't have one, call me and you can try mine out. See you on the ice!
