Cherrish Your Hunts

Recommended Posts

I won't blubber too much, but we lost my Godfather this week to a stroke that caused and anuerysm which burst and took him on Tuesday. His family donated his organs so that something good can come of this. He had 65 good years and developed such deep relationships in the Ashby area that we are one of them now and not "City Hunters." He is the main reason I began hunting years ago. He is my dad's best friend and was a mentor to my brother and I. As I think back on all the good times in the blind, most of them are about the stories and the jokes and the goofing around - the numbers of birds shot are secondary. The last day we hunted together I lied to him and told him Big Marine was full of Cans so we went out for an evening shoot in November - I didn't expect many birds, I just figured it would be fun to share a couple cigars and shoot the breeze. No duck dared to interrupt us but that's okay, I'll remember that hunt for a long time. Enjoy your hunting buddies.

Well, we are still city hunters ;\) but friends with lots of local folks in that area who became good friends because of Jim, and his Dad before him.

If anybody wants to waste some time looking through some pics, I put a bunch up for Jim's friends to see here:

Pics of our buddy fishing and hunting and hanging out.

No dead duck or dead fish pics, just hanging out and having fun. So yeah, enjoy your times afield and make sure take time to go out with your buddies instead of sitting on the couch if you are kinda undecided on going out. Good memories will be all we have at some time in our lives, and that is a great thing that fishing and hunting give us all.

Was he any relation to Chuck?

Nope, just good friend. I think might have used his shotgun on one of Chucks first duck hunts, and maybe some of Jim's hand me down camo that went thru me to Chuck \:\) now at the cabin.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. BTW - Jim's kidneys are going to two people out of state, his liver is going to someone very, very sick at Mayo, and his eyes are going to a person who has never before seen. So he will help people even in death.

Our Dad lived due to someone, Joe, who had an aneurism and gave his organs, so Jim really knows/knew how important a gift it is.
