Question

I am looking to going to either dish network or direct t.v. I am looking for any experiences with either or both or if you like or didn't like your service. I don't know which to go with. there is a couple pro's and cons, but i'm looking for people who have had it. Thats the only way to find out. thanks

I have had directv for about 5-6 years. I have been plenty happy with the service. All I really need is SPEED, local, Discover channel and I'm happy. Unfortuneately they don't offer that package! cry.gif

I have has some issues with equipment. I had a reciever blow out (my fault) and a passive switch go out (not anybodies fault). When the switch went out the techs thought it might have been the DVR flakin out and they sent out a new one at no charge. Same with the reciever I blew up. They even offered to send out a tech to replace my switch at no charge. I declined since they wouldn't be able to get out until the next week. $30 dollars and about 10 minutes and I was good to go!

I have had Direct tv for 9 years with no problems. The customer service was slow(long hold times)but now I do everything on line. I just dropped HBO online and the next day it was gone. My next step is to go HD but I am going to wait till they have all of there sats up and working.

Directv has the NFL package,

Dish net doesn't,,,enogh said???,,lol

No but channels 606 and 603 is all a guy needs, but get the tivo

that way if you loose signal you can watch all you hunting thats been prerecorded,,,lol

Directv packaging bundle is whacked though,, I have to pay an extra 2 bucks for the channel 606,,,, I think Dish has is wrapped in a lower costing pack,,,,

Personally I'd go with Directv, seems to have better recievers and channel packages...

DirecTv also has the MLB package. A big deal for me since I am a sports nut. Had the Big Ten Network first. Dish got it a couple of weeks later.

I have had both. Had Dish for around 10 years. A couple of months ago I switched to DirecTv. Took me several weeks to make the decision.

I was buying a big screen HDTV and thus needed an HDTV satellite receiver and dish. I called Dish Network, my provider at the time and asked them my options. I was told I would have to buy the equipment and pay for installation. I then called DirecTv and was told that they would provide the equipment and installation for free with a commitment for a year of programming. You need the programming anyway, so no big deal.

I ran into a buddy who had the same situation and he told me to call Dish back and ask to talk to an account specialist. I did, and was subsequently offered the equipment and installation for free. No answer as to why they hadn't told me this in the first place. Had to threaten to dump them if they didn't match DirecTv's offer. Why should I have to do this?

Since I was having a home theater stereo system installed also I wanted the installation done by a local Radio Shack which sells and installs both Dish and DirecTv. If something goes wrong, I want a local person to call.

Dish told me no, I had to use an installer of their choice. DirectTv said, sure use anybody who installs our equipment. I would pay for the home theater installation and they would pay for the rest.

As I said, I went with DirecTv. Have been very happy with the change. DirecTv, at least at the time I first subscribed, had more HDTV channels and was promising many more in the next year. Dish appeared to be lagging behind in the HDTV race.

Love the big screen, 46", and HDTV, BTW. Worth looking into, if you can fit it into your budget.

Hope this helps you Jiggin Pig. Any questions, just post them. I feel like I've been through it all.

Yeah, Dish did somewhat fall behind in the HD programming department after being the leader for quite some time. Unfortunately the launch company had a couple failures on the pad which set them back as they were hoping to get a few more satellites in the air before this year.

When I was looking at the two services Dish had more HD programming not to mention their picture quality was much better than Direc TV, and still is IMO, for both SD and HD programming. So if PQ is important to you it may be something worth considering as well, because there is a difference.

Yes... but Satellite Internet is a last resort with no other options available due to initial start up cost's and additional headache issue's.

I have both Direct TV and Dish-Network and I find no difference in picture quality with SD "standard definition" programming between the 2 services, it does very from channel to channel with each service though!

I don't have Dish-Network HD so I can't comment on that comparison.
