Voyager fabric

My wife bought a Voyager for me as gift last Christmas 2007. I store it indoors in a controlled environment all year. I used it 5 times last year & only 8 times so far this year. The fabric didn't look like this last year. The only part of it that looks good is the door. It looks fine from the outside but this is what it looks like from the inside. Wonder what it'll look like next year. Anyone else have this problem?

Wow! That's taken a lot of fold creasing beating. I've been very gentle with my Clam 1060 to even the way how I fold it down. Another buddy just bunches his fabric on Clam 5600. Just the last outing in my IceCube my buddy totally stripped the zipper and said that his older IceCube has a much better zipper. It's the exact same zipper, just that if you yank very fast, you're gonna strip it off. Just what he did. Anyway, the way I fold the material to help prevent wear on the fabric has kept mine IceCube in pretty good shape. The other time, another buddy steps on it and tears a hole in the fabric. I didn't realize that until after set up on another outing. If you're methodical about your shelter fabric, it will maintain it's integrity longer. I've done my share of field training exercises enough that being gentle and methodical about how you fold your camp shelters makes a difference in wear'n tear holes in them. You have to avoid creases. For ice shelters, that includes drying them out after a trip before packing them away.

Judging from the wear, was it possible that there were fabric exposed and flapping in the wind during transport?

I have had my Voyeageur for almost 3 years and have not had that bad of wear. I usually get it home and set it up in the garage and turn up the heat to dry it out. I also have the travel cover so it stays pretty well protected. Have you contacted clam? They have great customer service. When I first bought mine, there was a spot in the door where the black lining was very thin, they sent me a replacement canvas for my voyager. grin.gif Now when this one wears out I will have a new one to put on the tub. Shouldn't need to purchase a new house for quite a while. grin.gif

I'm pretty gentle w/ the fabric also. I keep it out of the way of everything that could possibly damage it. And I always dry it out before storage. I have a topper on my truck, no wind to speak of during transport. I absolutely love this thing & I know that it will be years before I can afford to buy another. I don't have my reciept anymore. I'm just ticked because this thing cost so much $ & the most important part of it is the weakest part.

My FT Pro was new this year, but has been set up and fished in about 20 times now. When I pull it onto the ice to go fishing I carefully lay my power auger, Buddy heater and LP tank on the folded-up fabric. I transport it in the open bed of my pickup with the travel cover on it and set it up in the garage to dry every Sunday night.

It has the black lining and is showing no signs of anything like that. There are a few tiny pinhole spots where light comes through, but so far it's holding up very well.

There's always something said that can be improved upon...Even I had this ambitious idea of doubling the shelter up with some tarp material...But I don't have the sewing skills to effectively do that, except maybe patch a hole. LOL's My biggest concern with my Clam 1060 is the weak aluminum poles. You have to be gentle else they bend on you and then you can't extend nor retract them anymore. Plus all those little screw knobs to hold the poles in place when extended...I hate searching for a screw knob that's on the ice/snow after packing up. Since then I've always inventory before leaving my site.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
