Yozuri Hybrid 4# vs Gamma 4#

Okay so I've been testing these two summer lines for ice fishing this year. Lure weights typically from 1/64 oz to 1/32 oz. In previous years I've always been using Trilene Ice as well as Fireline (both reg and crystal). So far I've personally concluded the following:

Yozuri Hybrid 4# test:

-has very high water repellent property, afterall it's flourocarbon coated. I got ice freeze on my guides and reels but very little to none on the line itself. In -temps all of my line guides were frozen solid but only frost on the line.

-typical memory coil in cold weather. I say about the same as Trilene Ice, but maybe a little better.

-line twist is more resistant than Trilene Ice. I did get to one point where the line bird nest off of the spool with the bail open. I'd figure that subtemps would've made the line too stiff for that to happen but get enough twisting and that will happen. So far never had any line twist on rod tip.

Gamma 4# test:

-has typical water repellent property. Maybe a little better than your average mono, afterall it's a copolymer line. I got my normal ice freeze on the line.

-this line has a high memory line coil in cold weather. I have to stretch the line to get it to perform. Then again, I normally go through that routine on every outing. Only that the gamma line basically requires it done on the first line drop.

-line twist is about average. I had some line twisting on rod tip on ocassional line drop and while baiting lure, but very easy to fix as since it hasn't birdnest once at all.

Conclusion:

Both lines may be summer lines but are good for winter ice fishing as well. I've gotten more strikes on deadsticking on the Yozuri line, but more strikes on the Gamma for jigging. Leaving me to conclude that florocarbon (hybrid in this case) is much better for deadstick presentation. Both are more supple compared to Trilene Ice. Probably better for hooking fish and jigging presentation, but with cold hands/fingers it did make line luring tying more difficult. I typically use the trilene knot. So far not a single line break and gamma 4# fought a few northerns with ease to an 18" , which I thought was a big crappie at first. I quickly changed my mind reaching down the ice hole with my fingers on that one. grin.gif

I haven't seen Gamma Ice in 4#...I've been using the summer line.

I really haven't bothered to really look at lines dissapearing under water, but the Yozuri line I'm using is that camo green color, which appear to blend much better in plankton filled water and weedy areas. Most days I've been out fishing were cloudy so I haven't got a good evaluation on a bright lit up opaque water. Which on one occasion regular black fireline outperformed crystal in terms of line disapearance, as the crystal basically glowed bright white with all that reflected light.
