FishTrap Pro Set-Up Question

LEECH21

Recommended Posts

I have a Fish Trap Pro fish house. It works excellent for single person outings.

Just curious if any of you have any suggestions on a better way to set-up the "lay-out" of the ice in the house. I always seem a little crammed when I get it all set-up???

I usually have the two 8" holes side by side right in front of the door. My Mr.Heater to the left between the left hole and the sled and then my Coleman lantern on the opposite side of my feet on the right, between the right hole and the sled.

Sorry if this is confusing to read....it was even more confusing trying to explain it!

Things can get a little tight when night fishing when I need the lantern going. Any tips would be most excellent, thank you.

I run a pro and occasionaly run two holes inside aswell.

First off Ive got rope lights and a headlamp as a light source so that cuts out the lantern. Sitting in the house looking towards the door I run a heater cooker in the top left corner and the tank outside. If I want to bobber/deadstick I drill that hole in the bottom left corner near the sled. My primary jigging hole is on the middle right and my flasher is usually right behind it. This setup is a little tight but works for me and leaves me a place to step so I can get out the door.

I have a Pro as well, and I fish two holes inside it.

I keep the seat off center to the left and have a rod rocker mounted in two holes drilled in the front lip of the sled near the right pole bracket. I auger the hole and position the shack so the sled is a rod length away from that hole, so the rod can sit on the rocker unattended and the line will be more or less centered in the hole. I usually use that hole as my jig pole or drop a small jig with spikes on it down that hole.

My second hole is placed diagonally away from me and toward the door, leaving room enough for the Marcum to sit between the hole and the front wall of the shack. That hole can be either another jig/spike rod, a jigging rod or deadstick with a minnow. I use another rod rocker mounted on a short length of treated 1x6, which sits on the ice, to hold that pole.

My buddy heater goes against the front wall, minnow bucket in the front right corner, rod bag with tackle boxes/tools etc in it stays in the back of the sled.

It works out great, the only drawback being if I want to get outside, which I rarely do, the heater is in the way of the door, so I have to be careful not to light my bibs on fire going out.

There's not a lot of extra room in a Pro, and a heater is the stickler in the equation since it needs space in front of it so your lines/rod tips don't get too close to it. On warmer days when I leave the heater in the truck I have plenty of room to spare.

My fish trap pro is set up like this. Seat either all the way back or close to it so my feet are close to the sled. Two holes spread apart as far as possible (left to right) minnow bucket on the ice between the wall and my left foot. Mr. Heater on a 5lb tank on the other side of my holes towards the door. I have found I can put this pretty close to the door without the door getting hot. I use a headlight for light.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
