Wheel House Trailer Plates

The entire thing seems like a blind side to me.

How and when are people suppose to get informed or warned on the matter ?

Unless you just purchased a toy hauler new in the past weeks you would have no clue of this policy change. We going to just start getting tickets for an addendum to a long time policy ?

I have a wheeler sitting on lake shore property. It gets wheeled on to the lake and thats all or any travel it sees.

Do I have to now remove the wheels on the lake to make it a non wheeler.

Just wait until you go into DMV and try to license it. Tried to do that with mine a few years ago since I knew I would be crossing state lines (SoDak and NoDak) to hunt. Talk about having to jump through hoops. I gave up and decided to try the play dumb act (I inherently do this well) if pulled over. Still waiting to get quizzed as to why old DL # on house does not match the one in my wallet also. Glad to see Rick has the up and running again at the speed of... dial up ;\)

i emailed the state twice and called them twice, it does seem that all fish houses will need to be registered soon. The email i received said they will start enforcing it this spring sometime. I called the local registration office ands they still swore up and down i didnt need to register it. The state said other wise and i told them that they should maybe inform the individual branches of the correct procedure. They also gave me the statute # 168 And a fish house fits into the recreational trailer which basically says any trailer used for recreational purposes including those that drop down, lower, and tires remove. The local office did say that i could get a lifetime license though and that would cost $75 approx. i would have to fill out an affidavit of reconstruction, have it inspected to make sure there are no stolen parts and i'm sure to measure it to make sure its road legal and it also has to be under #3000. I think the affidavit also includes something so we wont get double taxed on the building supplies.

sucks, but i hope it helps.

O.K. so I went and got my fishhouse license at the DMV. Had to fill out a "statemnet of fact" stating that there was no vin# on the house and that I had bought it new from a dealer 5 years ago but the bill of sale was long gone. Got a lifetime sticker for $66. Then I call my brother and he tells me he did the samething only he got a renewable plate for the back of the house. Called the DMV today and they said they did everything right. Both houses are under the magic 3000lb limit. Either my brother got took having to renew the plate every year or my house is not legally licensed. Any opinions?

M.S.S 168.11 S 25

Subd. 25. Recreational vehicle. (a) "Recreational vehicle" means travel trailers including those that telescope or fold down, chassis-mounted campers, motor homes, tent trailers, and

converted buses that provide temporary human living quarters.

(B) "Recreational vehicle" is a vehicle that:

(1) is not used as the residence of the owner or occupant;

(2) is used while engaged in recreational or vacation activities; and

(3) is either self-propelled or towed on the highways incidental to the recreational or vacation

activities.

The first part of the statute does not really fit a fish house but section (2)while engaged in recreational activities is the part that would make you register it as a "camper"

BUT

If you had a converted enclosed trailer you maybe able to get away with a lifetime registration if you strip all the interor that would make the trailer look like a "camper" when you pull it down the road.

I think we need to lobby for the exception of lifetime registration for recreation vehicles used solely for use on the Ice. If you want to use it for a camper in the summer then register it as a camper year around.

I talked to the dmv in chisago city today they told me to registor my fish house I would need pictures of all four sides and fill out the form for the title . And if it had bunks I would have to registor it as an RV and pay yearly fee.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
