Catfish newbie

My brother-in law took this "hardcore" Mille Lacs fisherman to Horseshoe Lake to convert me to the cats...I am now officially hooked!!!...my question to all is, I live in the east metro and would like to pursue more channel cats thru the ice...I don't own a 4-wheeler or snowmobile so I would have to walk or drive...any lakes on this side of town worth trying?

You should post this in the catfish forum as well, you'll probably get better answers there.

I don't know much about cattin through the ice, but I've heard there is a fairly good population of channel cats in some places along the St Croix during the summer. You might be able to rustle some up through the ice if you can find em. I don't know what the ice conditions are out there, but there wasn't that much current out sturgeon fishin in October, so I'd guess there's fishable ice. Whether there's cat holes within walking distance of an access is another question.

I know they used stock a ton of channel cats in Lake Rebecca in Hastings. You might have better ice there now than on the croix. I will be driving by it tomorrow - I can take a peak and see if anyone is out on the ice.

never caught fish out of there, but tanners in oakdale has channels in it. should be right around your area.
