protrapper
I use the Thorne Bros. spring bobber on a Sweetheart Rod. The slickest system there is the bobber is made for the rod and it just snaps in place on the top eye. LOVE IT!!!
FreeFlySpy
I have a source for coiled spring bobbers but there are 2 different types. Bing Bob of which you actually replace the eye of your rod. The other type can be used with poles of which the line goes through the rod shaft.I have been using both types and can see the smallest bite of a gill of which I feel they are just gumming the worm and fanning back to the bottom.[email protected]
Royal Dutchman
I'm with Chiro. I've caught a lot of bottom-huggin' eyes by dropping clear down every so often and barely lifting off. Haven't figured out how to do that with a bobber.
Guest
you can catch any fish with the spring. You can bottom bounce for eyes with the spring.
almosthaddabite
chiro, good point. Most spring bobber fishermen I've seen couldn't be confused with "active", but you make a good point.
Guest
almosthaddabite,Funny now after my ranting it looks like I am going to be the guy setting with a beer in my hand staring at an ice buster on UR this weekend...but when I set the barley down I may still jig once or twice..lol
Guest
Hey Chiro ,your right, the noodle rods are great too! The noodle rod with a spring and the vex is even more deadly.------------------Just say yes to icefishing!
almosthaddabite
chiro, I knew I has a spring some place, took almost an hour but finally found them in my Laker box (?????).Tipup season will soon be over so I will be back to two panny lines and will revive tthe spring. Should be a good test as the sunnies are coming around.
jigglestick
spring bobbers have a place in my heart as well, but one disadvantage is when you get on fish that are aggresive.i usually fish with one rod in my hand, and one rod on the bucket. if you are dealing with a fish on the pole in your hand, then the other one hits, i have found they let go because the spring bottomed out and they felt it before i could get to it. i've found myself in between cranks, trying to set the other hook and hoping he stays hooked up till i can get the first fish on the ice it can be a real circus if you could imagine, i think i probably could have made funniest home videos a time or two i now like to use the spring in one hand, and icebuster on the other. i give the ice buster a little slack, so they can travel while i'm cranking the other. i also like how fast you can get the bait down, not having to wait for the line to slip through the bobber.the springs i have found that i like the best i can't remember the name, but i bought them at l&m in grand rapids.they come in various weights, or strength, like medium, light, ultra light-so on. they are two wires that clip on to your pole, that come together at the end. they have a large bead for easier visibility, and a fairly large loof, as to not slide your bobber stopper. you don't need your bobber stopper, but i like to keep it on set at bottom depth when it is at water level. easy to see how far i'm off bottom, when my kid has my vex good fishing! ------------------keep a firm grip on your jiglestick!!....jigglestick.... united jigsticker
jigglestick,I have questioned many times what it must look like to others when I am trying to land 2 fish at once.My arms usually end up in a big knot, and I lose one (or both in some instances) fish anyways.Alot of times now I just stick to one rod. Then I can focus, relax, and drink a couple Pork Chops in a can.
IceNutt
Spring bobbers are really easy to make yourself. Even better is the fact that you can customize the bobber to your needs. Just go to the hobby store a buy some piano (spring) wire and some plastic beads. I make my loop by bending the wire around a large bolt I put in my vise. A couple of bends in the wire put on the bead and tape it to your rod. Vary the length and diameter of the wire to meet your needs.------------------IceNutt
Guest
Icenut that sounds like a good idea! How many different diameters of spring do they have?------------------Just say yes to icefishing!
DickUrban
Is there a way to use a spring bobber on a wrist saver rod (the guides are on the bottom of the rod)?
IceNutt
Grinched There are a bunch of different diameters. Model plane builders use them for the controls. The wire is cheap so its not expensive to try different diameters and lenghts.------------------IceNutt
