floating vs. spring bobbers

I have a source for coiled spring bobbers but there are 2 different types. Bing Bob of which you actually replace the eye of your rod. The other type can be used with poles of which the line goes through the rod shaft.I have been using both types and can see the smallest bite of a gill of which I feel they are just gumming the worm and fanning back to the bottom.

almosthaddabite,
Funny now after my ranting it looks like I am going to be the guy setting with a beer in my hand staring at an ice buster on UR this weekend...but when I set the barley down I may still jig once or twice..lol

Hey Chiro ,your right, the noodle rods are great too! The noodle rod with a spring and the vex is even more deadly.

spring bobbers have a place in my heart as well, but one disadvantage is when you get on fish that are aggresive.i usually fish with one rod in my hand, and one rod on the bucket. if you are dealing with a fish on the pole in your hand, then the other one hits, i have found they let go because the spring bottomed out and they felt it before i could get to it. i've found myself in between cranks, trying to set the other hook and hoping he stays hooked up till i can get the first fish on the ice grin.gif it can be a real circus if you could imagine, i think i probably could have made funniest home videos a time or two smile.gif i now like to use the spring in one hand, and icebuster on the other. i give the ice buster a little slack, so they can travel while i'm cranking the other. i also like how fast you can get the bait down, not having to wait for the line to slip through the bobber.
the springs i have found that i like the best i can't remember the name, but i bought them at l&m in grand rapids.they come in various weights, or strength, like medium, light, ultra light-so on. they are two wires that clip on to your pole, that come together at the end. they have a large bead for easier visibility, and a fairly large loof, as to not slide your bobber stopper. you don't need your bobber stopper, but i like to keep it on set at bottom depth when it is at water level. easy to see how far i'm off bottom, when my kid has my vex smile.gif
good fishing!

jigglestick,

I have questioned many times what it must look like to others when I am trying to land 2 fish at once.

My arms usually end up in a big knot, and I lose one (or both in some instances) fish anyways.

Alot of times now I just stick to one rod. Then I can focus, relax, and drink a couple Pork Chops in a can.

Spring bobbers are really easy to make yourself. Even better is the fact that you can customize the bobber to your needs. Just go to the hobby store a buy some piano (spring) wire and some plastic beads. I make my loop by bending the wire around a large bolt I put in my vise. A couple of bends in the wire put on the bead and tape it to your rod. Vary the length and diameter of the wire to meet your needs.

Grinched There are a bunch of different diameters. Model plane builders use them for the controls. The wire is cheap so its not expensive to try different diameters and lenghts.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
