I have moved from Crookston, "land near the great and mighty Red river" to Brainerd where I am as of yet unable to find any information on catfishing in the area. If anyone has information on fishing for channels near Brainerd lakes area PLEASE let me know.

On the Mississippi you'll have to come downstream for a ways- I'm not aware of any significant populations upstream from St. Cloud....

as might be expected, the fish tend to trend larger as the river widens.

For icing cats, some folks have decent luck on the Horseshoe chain. there are those who would advocate fishing river ice, I however am not among them, please excercise _extreme_ caution on any ice over moving water!

that being said in the summer if you go farther south, the Minnesota also has a nice population of cats in it.

Keep your eye on the Catfish board, we get to be a pretty lively bunch in the warmer months!

I don't know specific info on channel cats up that way, but I know the In-Fisherman boys catch many of their channel cats near Brainerd. Sorry I can't be of more help, though.
