need to have you guys weigh in on what my next move should be.

I bought a 2003 carry over Polaris Frontier Classic 800 4 stroke Snowmobile just for pulling the ice house around & ice fishing.

It has 300 miles on it and hasn't run right from day one. Not a single trip has it made without loosing power, acting like it's dropped a cylnder. The head light keeps getting real bright, then almost goes out. I have had it to two different dealers. It has now been in the shop for 21 days at one dealership & they have not a clue what to do with it. They have had it on the computer & it checks out with no problems.

They put a voltage regulator on it(I knew there is no way thats the problem)

They have the Polaris factory Tech on the phone

I told them, it has to be the stator or the ECU IMO. I have been a small engine Mech. for close to 20 years.

The machine has one more day on the Warr. They say they will cover it untill they find the problem.

I called out west and asked a dealer out there if they rented any to the park service(Yellowstone). He said they had a couple in their rental fleet & they had nothing but problems with them, They got rid of them ASAP.

I'm ready to turn this thing over to the Lemon Law

Snows to deep for my 4 wheeler & my ice fishing machine sits in the shop with no fix insite

Where do you go from here?

from the sounds of it, your machine is alot like most of the Frontiers that came out, many problems with them, if you can give it back for something else, go for it, but good luck, polaris won't want it ether. grin.gif

a friend of mine had a wheeler that was the wheeler from hell, the dealer couldn't figure it out for two years, he finally took it the the factory, and then the techs got it taken care of, had some wrong parts in the carb and muffler from the factory, he lived close to the factory so taking it there wasn't an issue, but if you are a distance away, you shouldn't have to bear the burden of taking it in.

Is it any wonder that Weber makes all their 4 stroke snowmobile motors now.

It's obvous they had enough problems that they had to outsource for new motor supplier.

Think they would admitt to the problems and make things right with the people stuck with their screw ups? NO

I can only say this. I had problems one time with a new Ski-doo Mach Z. The motor blew up out on the trail. The dealer picked me & the machine up out on the trail. I got a FREE Summit to ride while my machine was in the shop. It wasn't even under Warr. but Ski-doo paid for a brand new motor & the dealer charged ZERO labor for the repair. Now thats service

My mistake to ever buy a Polaris. NEVER AGAIN!!!

Lets see now

The machine at will runs on one cyl, looses power, barely idels, head light goes from real bright to almost nothing

14 days in the shop & the only thing done was replacing the alternator switch

went to pick it up..still runs the same

Left it there

Now 23 days in the shop

and the only thing replaced

DRUM ROLL!! The ^%$$#@ battery

UNREAL!!!!

the ONLY 4 stroke sled i'd buy is a Yamaha.

Yamaha never had one warranty claim on any of their 4 stroke motors last year, thats unbelievable!

None of the other sled manufactures can say that.

Yamaha has the 4 stroke market wrapped up. All the other 4 stroke stuff is iffy quality junk.

I was riding with a guy that had just bought a Polaris 4-stroke Indy Classic 750. I ride a RS Venture Yamaha and wanted to drive the Polaris and we switched for bit. I have never driven a sled that was such a dog in my life. I have a 8 horse ski-doo that accelerates faster,I'm not sure it could do over 50mph, the rear view mirrors were useless. Even for a 4-stroke, which should be quiet. I could not say it was quiet, clutch noise, vibrated, exhaust noise, I don’t have enough time to type the inequalities from the Yamaha sleds. You couldn’t give one to me. The guy got off mine and couldn’t believe it. I’m not sure he isn’t trying to get ride of his.

I have a 2002 Frontier Touring that was used for testing in Yellowstone and i own in Mn. I have almost 3000 miles on it and it has always worked great.

This past week was the first time i had a problem and that was the light going bright and now staying dim. Runs great but the light leads me to believe something is out.

Did a coil or stator fix the running and the lights issue? Or did they also change something else too. Maybe the alternator switch? I like to fix things myself so if i can't find it i will bring it to the dealer.

I have an Indy 500 and the thing is just a pile... In the past two seasons it has blowen up three times...No one knows why it is blowing up but they just keep throwing new pistons in it and send it home...It is kind of a joke. Finally this last time I had a buddy look at it and it had two diffrent carbs on it and the clowns at the dealership didn't even catch it. I now have 250 miles on the new motor and its running good.

my parents have a pair of 2003 frontiers......nothing but nightmares EVERY time they take them out. They have 1400 miles on each of them. From electrical to bearings and shafts, usually 2 go out and 1 has to be pulled back in. We just replaced the bearing and shafts on both machines and thougth the problems were behind then last night after riding 60 miles the one started running on one cylinder, which isn't uncommon for these 2 machines but usually will snap out of it, not so last night, we had to limp the 1 machine back the last 20 miles and after talking with the dealer they said not to do anything at this time as they have a machine in now with the same problem the coil closest to the clutch seems to be breaking down, but they aren't sure and neither is Polaris. Polaris has not responed to emails or returned calls on these machines. We would also like for Polaris to be held responsible for these piece of **** sleds they have sold.

I know someone that has a ski doo legend 4 stroke and i'm quite impressed with it. Its by no means super fast off the start but the whole 25 miles to the gallon sounds nice. And not to mention quiet.

By the way what do these yami 4 strokes get for mileage?

well im a polaris guy and i would never buy a a 4 stock polaris. i own a 2003 xc600 pipe it and rejet it and also but a high flow air box. the only thing i have had to take my sled in for is to rebuild the shocks i have over 6000 miles on it and still runs strong. its never left sit not only that i do every around 13 to 15 miles per gallon.

if i were to buy a 4 stock it would be yamaha and it would be the nitro.
