Vote for the "icefishing car"

I contacted The Discovery Channel today via email to tell them how we feel. I disclosed information regarding their "pop up" screen stating the winner ahd already been chosen and also told them that several thousand of us from this site have banded together to vote and win the contest. I should have information within a week, but I'm not holding my breath. I'll keep you posted should they write me back.

I received an email today from the producer of Monster Garage; she stated:

Hello, I'm the producer of the Discovery.com Monster Garage site, and I received your email.

Thanks for writing, but I can assure you, as the builder of the poll, it is not rigged. As a writer who works with templated software, I wouldn't even know how to rig it. And I certainly have no incentive one way or another to influence how it turns out; the network doesn't have an opinion, either. We really do want the viewers to choose, or we wouldn't have created a poll at all.

As it happens, a 4x4 Web site (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=4fecdf41c1eee7e65eab0dbed60e5415&threadid=111488) organized very early on and has been coming online to vote regularly. That is likely why there are so many votes for the rock crawler.

I did program the poll so that it will only record one vote per computer every 12 hours, so if any of your colleagues are voting more than once within 12 hours, it will not record the vote -- although the pop-up window will come up.

I have seen the site http://fishingminnesota.com/ubb/Forum30/HTML/002781.html -- I think that's the group you're referring to? -- and we were delighted that people cared so passionately as to post about the poll. And if we weren't interested in building an ice-fishing monster, we wouldn't have selected it from among the thousands of ideas submitted by viewers. It is a great idea.

I'll double-check with my HTML developer to make sure no one on the outside hacked the poll, but the votes are very much in line with the number of unique visitors to the page and the postings we're seeing on other message boards.

Thanks for writing,

Kristen

If'n you go look thru the URL of a 4x4 BBS that Chad711 posted - and read it, you'll
see that back about 1-27, the IFC was way ahead - but then - well, lets just say that rock nuts started using technology to cheat - this is a quote from one of the posts there....

Quote:

Wonder why we are getting 100 plus votes at a time?? I opened up 25 of those script windows.

They are all runnin along smooooooooooth

End Quote:

This is by a poster named "Country Girl", and is dated 1-27, at 10.55pm.

I would have to say that we never stood a chance. But oddly enough, in the 4x4 thread, they show vote counts and percent-ages like none of us have seen......

Call it what you want - I still call it rigged, but fraud and cheating work too.

If Discovery wanted to do the "right" thing, they'd throw the whole thing out. But they won't, cause there's advertising $ to be made off this - even for the rock hounds.

Cool,
I don't know if this was from my original post on MG's site but I suggested an ice fishing car several months ago. I though it would be cool to have a 4 wd Suburu with Matt Trax on it. a blade on the front and an auger that would come out the hatch.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
