how do you feel about?

My girlfriend is going to school to be a vet and she said something about the state banning aggresive dogs such as pitbulls and dobermans, ect. (spelling sorry). I know this is a hunting dog forum but just wondering how you feel about this. I didnt bother me much untill i got to thinking that what if they banned a breed that I had. They would have to pry my dog from my cold dead fingers. How do you guys feel about this topic? Im not trying to sound like a tree huger but come on.

As this is a hunting dog forum, let me say this. Hunting grouse behind my Pitt/Rott mutt is way better than hunting grouse behind my Lab/Springer mutt.

I hope the state would say "No more new sales of the dog" and if your dog is registered and you already have it...you can keep it.

No new dogs sold and no new dogs brought into the state with families moving in.

If you have one of these dogs, you have to know something like this may be coming someday....

This is a good topic. I can see both sides of the story here. People can't continue to be injured by these "aggresive dogs" due to lack of owner responsibility, but in hind sight some responsible dog owners of "aggressive dogs" are put into the same category. They will be the ones losing out an family member.

I'll bet a box of beer that more people are bitten by golden retreivers than by pit bulls. Having said that, I hate pit bulls. My neighbor (elderly woman) was attacked by one, and all she was doing was walking down the street. Is this the dogs fault or the dog owners fault? I dont' know. My dad had a pit bull and I hated the thing, and the feeling was mutual.

I'm all about the government NOT being involved in my life, or my home, or what type of dog I own.

I totally agree.

I am sure the % of bites from dogs are even less from pit bulls than other breeds...but they are a breed that has been know to attack for the "heck of it". Well behaved pit bulls can turn in an instant.

The government does not have to step in, but if someone has one of these dogs that is friendly and it suddenly turns on me or a member of my family and hurts us...I will sue the pants off of them. Why raise a dog that is know to be dangerous?

I was attacked by a "wild dog" in our woods one winter. I was 17 or 18 years-old. I didn't get bit due to quick thinking and it being a medium-sized dog, but I sure got scratched up. Later, the dog was found in my dad's fox traps and we shot it. It was so skinny, I could fit my hands around its waste.

So, any dog that is mistreated can attack...but a pit bull can "just attack". If that would have been a pit bull in the woods, would I be here today?? They won't stop the attack like other dogs, even ones that are mistreated.

To this day, I am very afraid of large dogs unless I get to know them. Funny how one incident can change your feelings towards other people's pets.

I bet boilerguy is right saying that more people are bitten by golden retrievers than pitbulls. I would bet that this is because there are WAY more golden retrievers than pitbulls. How many young kids have been mauled to death by golden retrievers?? The difference between mauling to death and biting is enormous.

Do you think harrsher punishment to the owners would help the situation. I think less people would by an aggresive breed because there "cute" as puppies. My gf thinks that in order to have a aggresive breed there should be guidelines, obedience classes, a permit ect.

While I don't want to sound soapboxy, or speaking for others, many of the people I know, around where I live have aggressive breed dogs for only a couple of reasons. 1. They think the dog makes them cool. 2. They are sellin dope. If they are dopers, the biggest fine in the world, need for permit, mandatory obediance training would'nt do any good. If it's the cool factor they have bigger issues than needing a permit.

Before you attack me for saying that, remember I said the people I know, around where I live. That's a tiny percentage. There are totally crappy owners of Black Labs, too.

Earlier I said I hate the breeds and I stand by that. That doesn't mean I want more laws.
