Pheasant in a frost tree.

Pheasants don't use trees very often and I wonder why this one was up here in minus 3 dgrees with about 5 other roosters, early morning, not much light but I thought it had a good look.

HH, what was your focal length. This has that mid-range telephoto look, like 200-300mm, but I'm just guessing.

Steve my information says; the focal length was 72mm or a 35mm equivalent of 454mm?, f3.5, 1/400. I was over 50 yards away. I have the a Cannon S3 and I know I had it zoomed all the way out.

That is cool. I have never seen a pheasant in a tree. Great job capturing it.

Pheasants actually use trees quite a bit to roost, especially the roosters. They usually do it to get into the early to mid morning sun. Especially when it gets later in the season and the temps start to drop.

I have seen quite a few birds in trees before, I actually shot one out of a tree once but he had been clipped from a prior shot, I just got the coup de grace.
