Rock band ??

I have 3 kids, they think they want to start a band smirk.gif, one likes playing guitar, one wants a set of drums, and the other likes to sing. I seen rock band set up at wally world, and now the kids are asking for it. My kids are 13,10,9. I have guitar hero, is this going to be just like guitar hero, but with a drum, and somehow with a microphone? Or is it like gh, but with karoke built into it? Is it worth the $170? Will they like it, or will it get old really fast? What are your thoughts?

I vote for the real drum set but then again I dont have to listen to it. grin.gif

No matter how good you get at Rock Band or Guitar Hero, in the end you dont come away with anything but a high score. But the other thing is at that age they might not be as interested in the real thing (I mean actually learning how to play properly) as they would the video game. It's a horse apiece.

My 2 oldest (8 and 6) love the game..

It's basically guitar hero w/drums and a mic. My daughter has become quite good at the singing aspect.. It's still odd listening to her belt out Paranoid by Black Sabath. wink.gif

So, vidoe games have no place in life? Why play video game football, get them a real football. Why play video game hunting, get them a gun. Why play video game racing, buy them a race car.

It's a game, that's all it is. It's fun and easy to play.

BTW, my daughter does play piano and when she gets that down, she can play other instruments. But right now, Piano can end up being more like work to her, having to practice all the time.

If they want to play music then buy them real instruments. Guitar, bass & drums.

My 10 yr old son does have an electric guitar. My 13 yr old daughter wants to play the drums, she wants a set, but maybe for her birthday. My 9 yr old daughter wants to be the singer, we have a cheap karoke machine now. They asked for this game, I know it wont help them much to get better at playing instruments, but it will help a little, and help a lot to amuse them, I hope! smirk.gif

    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
    • The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.
    • It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.
    • We went to the flats too. I dipped a tire on the rental car onto it just to say I’ve been there, but it was still pretty soft from winter melt. After seeing some moron in a BMW suv get dragged out of the muck I had no intention of repeating his stupidity.
    • I've been out on the flats. It's like being on a different planet
    • I’ve only seen that from the air.
