Spearing in the West Metro

As you all know, i just moved here into the west metro, chanhassen to be exact, and im still trying to figure out what lakes are the best in my area for spearing.

If anyone could help me out that would be great. I need to get them figured out so i know what my best and worst lakes are for spearing.

I have tried Minnewashta by victoria, that has been clear and I have had some luck on Waconia, seen some monsters that at first I thought was skies' but as they swam out I was able to tell that they were white spots on dark back ground., have been on prior lower usually murky and upper is clear, I have also speared, fish, spring, thole and odowds

Medicine Lake in Plymouth has good numbers of pike in it with a chance at a really nice one. Water clarity isn't too bad either.

I've heard the Eden Prairie lakes are full of northerns too but not sure about water clarity.

What kind of water clarity are you looking for? Is their a certain minimum number of feet? Or is it just a more the merrier kind of thing?

Christmas in excelsior is super clear. I usually set up in 12 to 15 feet and can see the bottom perfectly. You will see snakes all day long, great place to shoot some video. Occasionally you will see an 8 pounder swimming on the bottom through the weeds. I usually set my house by the break right next to the closest point to the access. Good luck!

thanks for the information. I have to get out there before the year is over. Its a great lake to spear on with the clear water.

i was up north with weekend, and you could spear up to at least 15 fow. Its awesome when you get on a lake like that.

You need to make sure you are set up in the 15ft range on Christmas.... I made the mistake of setting up in 10 and had weeds within 2 feet of the hole... I set my other house up in 18 ft and had weeds 5 ft off the bottom and lots of green water....
