Snowshoes

Anyone know a lot about snowshoe or own a pair. I was looking at getting some to run my line this winter and to ice fish in the BWCA. I see that Cableas make some, I hear that Tubbs and Atlas are also good.

I use old wooden ones. The reason being is i can fix them on the line if i have too with parachute cord, etc... If I was not dealing with 30 below and colder i think you could easily get by with a nice pair from cabelas.

gotta love the wood ones i got some old ojibwa shoes the work great.. i want to get a pair of nice wood alaskans or maybe try to make them????

Buddies and I run the magnesium g.i. type,not the prettiest shoe out there compared to the wooden ones but maintenance free/lightweight and pretty much indestructible. There's several of them on hsolist right now or you can often find them at army surplus stores. None of us have ever had any issues with them,great shoes.

Several of the state parks offer a class for building your own pair. Lake Maria's is the 22nd & 24th of January. Check the MN DNR homepage for a listing if your interested.

I had at one time a pair of Cabela's Alaskan Outfitter Series (green) snowshoes and I broke two different pairs. The people at Cabela's replaced the first set with the same kind and then they replaced the second set with their Outfitter Pro Series (yellow). I'm not sure who makes the Alaskan Series, but the Outfitter Pro Series is made by Atlas and I haven't had a problem since.
