Heartman
MArine plywood costs an arm and a leg, but would be great. Best bet would be to go with 3/4" plywood, heavily coated with an epoxy-based paint. Put an aluminum strip which your outboards screw clamps tighten down on, and you're all set. Treated plywood will corrode your aluminum boat. Not really that tough to replace the transom wood on a 14'er. When you get up in the higher horsepower stuff, then it's a more involved job. Walleye Guy
One other thought. Many older boats also have a plate on the back of the boat that the motor touches. Replace that when you are replacing the transom.
