12V PC Fans

Anyone use the 12V PC fans available through Fish house Supply ?

4 3/4" square fans with 2-wire leads.

Look like a good fan, ball bearing and good cfm for $14.

Was going to go with Radio Shack but they want $18 for a 3" square, no ball bearing and much lower cfm.

I just bought some fans from northern tool. I believe they are 3 1/2 inch. Not sure the other details but there were only $5.00. Just another option. I use several fans in my camper conversion. I have 1 above each hole pointed down and 1 on each side of the camper mounted horizontal pointed in opposite directions to keep the hot air moving.

I was in Northern yesterday and these fans were on my list.

Got my 12V winch for the trailer of my houses and a new heater for one house, but walked out totally forgetting about the darn fans.

I ordered (2) from Fish House Supply seeing they are good sized. I work in Burnsville so I'll go to Northern again solely for a couple of their used ones again.

I'll recheck their site but thought it stated used/new condition or working order.

Was part of my original trip there the other day, but you know how that goes.

I'll get a couple besides the ones I ordered from Fish House Supply as my other house needs some air mods. smile.gif

Those little 3 inchers at Northern don't push very much air.

I know a guy that has a few, one already fried becase there all used fans.

All computer fans are quiet, I don't think any computer fans are loud. If I was to put one in my house, I would get a new 4"-5" size.

I'd also recommend the electronics recycling center. Remember all the units turned in at the MOA a few weeks ago? They're still around somewhere.

I've got 2 server fans mounted on my ceiling and they push a lot of air. Much more than a typical PC.

80 (cfm) seems to be a much higher flow then most common case fans. Is more on a rate of a small server fan like mentioned above as being used.

The .28 amp draw is very reasonable/low for a 4 3/4" fan as well. Need to get specs on the fan of interest I guess.

Should get mine by tomorrow UPS I'll forward results.

Mine are going in a 6 X 8 foam house so I'm sure they will more then push enough air being a larger fan and higher cfm.

Allot of alternatives given here as usual smile.gif

No the fans did not arrive as I expected Saturday.

Everyone says Fish House Supply was very fast in shipment and receiving so I thought ordering Thursday late afternoon would have them here by Saturday afternoon.

I'm waiting though, got the heater installed and there is enormous ceiling heat to bring down and keep windows clear !!

They are fast!

If you ordered them late on Thursday, they may not have been shipped til Friday?

I doubt anyone delivers on Sat/Sunday.

I have had my stuff normally the next day, but with this storm??

You mentioned its hot on the cieling. How big of heater do you have? You may want to consider putting a couple small soffit vents in there to keep some fresh air moving.

UPS, Fed Ex. DHL they all run Saturdays this time of year. I'm sure with a Friday shipping and the weather, Saturday was not possible. I'll get them tomorrow I'm sure.

The house (6 X 8)Foamer from Soderblooms has (2) 3" vents in it and I installed a slider winder in the door which I had open 3".

The heater I got at Northern this week is one of those 10,000 btu Outdoorsman blue flame wall jobs for fish houses. Of course the "igniter" does not work on it so I'll just light the pilot manually. The valve control has about a 1" travel span before you go from pilot to high which is number (5) on the knob itself. One inch is number (1) on the knob so these things are far from accurate. (or mine anyway)

10,000 btu is not much but in this house it's 50% overkill the way it holds heat.

ice_it, Yep, You are correct. They are used take offs. You wouldn't have known by looks though. Not a speck of dirt or a scratch on the fans or the plugs. Sorry, I should have read more carefully before I replied. Still, a heck of a good buy. Phred52

I think they ship Spee-Dee? which don't deliver on Saturdays.

Anyway, I think that the 10,000 blue flame is going to cook you out of there.

A buddy took his is out of his 7 x 14' ( spray foamed) and put it in his garage because it was too hot and without a wall mount thermostat its hard to controll the heat.

You may need to crack open a few windows?

As insulated as yours is, you could probably heat it with a lantern.

The EVERCOOL fans from Fish House Supply arrived today and they seem to be a excellent fan.

They pushed a sheet of copy paper 5' away from the fan.

Faint but you figure on a 6' ceiling the air is still moving down to a foot from the floor. Not a big forced air feeling @ about sitting level but you can feel it so warm air will definitely be downward. Certainly moves more air then my 3" pc case fan.

They are a quiet fan with the ball bearing set up. And the .28 amp draw/long life should be efficient.

I'll set them up in the house tomorrow with the heat on and see what goes on.

Should work fine I'm thinking.

Trying to figure out a simple mount for them that allows them to swivel for directional use , and be hinged horizontal as well to allow only downward flow. Opposite each other in ceiling corners is what I'm thinking.

** Very Fragile Fans***

Had one test running on top of the box they came in. It's own force walked it across the box top and it tipped over.

Caught the fan wheel on a box corner still running and ripped two fins right off it. Now (1) is off balance and vibrates mad.gif

Second order was put in to Ron @ Fish House Supply

Get the biggest you can afford. I wasn't choosey and went with a free one in an old computer in an alley I found. Works fine but it's tiny. Don't use it much for that reason.

I mostly used it to stop condensation and keep heat evenly distributed, but I've found reflectix and a breathable skin on your house will do more for that than any comp. fan.

I have 2 smaller 3" fans. They move the air so..so.., but I think I'll be replacing them with 2 like yours.

I have mine on opposite corners of the house. One above my furnace blowing angled down, and the other is mounted up by my top bunk angled down.

You will love how quite these things are and at the same time preserving your battery.

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
