Live Traps

I would love to try some trapping on our land but am afraid of the consequences involved with trapping the neighbor dogs that roam the countryside. For this reason, I've thought about live traps.

Do people use these to trap? Do they work? Do they work better on certain types of animals? I see the coyote or larger predator ones advertised in Sportsmanguide, but would a coyote acutally enter one of these for some meat/bait? I would think they'd be pretty leery.

I've heard of bobcats and grey fox can be caught in cages, I have one set at my house for coons and they are quite easy to catch in cages.

They are very smart animals and i would highly doubt they would go in a live trap. If you use footholds most times it wont injure a dog. Usually they just lay there and r happy to see you in the mornin and they run off like nothing happened or follow you around.

You can trap K9's in cages but it is very difficult, and your success rate will be poor. What I would do is go talk to the dogs owners and let them know you are going to be doing some trapping and to please keep a close eye on their pets. If it is public land you have just as much right to it as they do, if it is your private land then simply ask them to please keep the dogs off your land during trapping season.

Go and talk to them, thats the best option.
