fishinchicks
Was a great weekend with perfect weather. Sun shone the whole time. The Phoenix area is pretty unique. We saw a field of corn across the street from a gas station, and next to the highway. There were cotton fields in the middle of industrial areas. In one area we saw a housing development on one side, an alfalfa field next to that, and a huge dairy operation all within a couple blocks of an airport and an industrial area. Different. As for the races, the Busch race was alright. Our flight was delayed on Friday night, so by the time we got our rental car and to the hotel it was 3 am. That caught up to us in the middle of the race when the cars were evenly strung out around the track. That was pretty dull. The Nextel Cup on Sunday was a little more exciting. Whoever was in the lead would be able to get pretty far in front in short order, until they hit lapped traffic. Hubby's driver is Kenseth, so he was pretty excited for awhile. The four of us that went each have a different favorite driver, so that made it interesting. We did the park and ride thing on Sunday, figuring it would save a really long walk to and from the car. What we didn't plan on was the time it would take for the busses to deliver everyone back to the parking lot. It took us about as long to get back to our car as it did to watch the race. Nascar fans are great, though. Almost everyone was really cool about the whole thing. We have now been to Daytona and Phoenix. On to the next! fishinchicks
One other thing I should add - how goofy is it to call it the Checker Auto Parts 500, when the race was only 312 miles? They couldn't make it 325? We have had to explain this a few times to non-Nascar fans.
VMS
Time to go to a Michigan Race!!Wife and I usually go to the August race in Michigan, but passed on it this year to save for Daytona in Feb. Wife is counting down the days, so I get to hear it at least once each day.Glad you had a good trip out there. That is a nice track, and someday I am hoping to take my wife out there to it as well. With relatives living in sun City West, it might take some time getting to and from the track, but it would be well worth it.Steve
