reel weeds

My buddy and I have them and I wont go to the lake without em. First time we used em up on Mille Lacs going for perch. Set up in the middle of a flat, structureless area, sandy bottom in 22 feet. My dad and uncle set up 50 yards away. We had two of the weeds down, and caught at least 10 times as many fish as they did. When they found the weeds, the school stuck around for us all day. We have used them with success in other occasions as well. Figure out a pattern you like to have them in around your shack and have a blast. It is really great when you drop an aqua-vu down and see the amount of fish under you.

I haven't had any problems to date with them, but I suppose if you are going for pike or eyes or bass through the ice, you may want to either spread your weeds out a bit from the house or put them in a concentrated clump off to one side or another. Its all about planning what fish you will target for the day, and let that be the deciding factor on the orientation of your weed bed. Perch, crappies, panfish should all be fine with them right up tight to the corners of your shack.

With these weeds getting more popular this year, I am sure there will be a couple guys who set them up really close and tangle with a pike that gets caught up in them and they will complain about the weeds. If they don't like em, I will buy them for a used price of course. I am a firm believer in the effectiveness of the product after using them.

Not many guide trips go by without setting down a group of Reel Weeds. I'm a firm believer that they give us an upperhand during different situations, especially for panfish and perch. Adding structure into the underwater world can definitely crank things up a notch!

Welcome to Fishing MN moparmarv. cool.gif

I picked up the same five-pack last year and it was a new twist to ice fishing for sure. I used them around my Otter portable during early ice and then again in my permanent when the ice was thick enough to move that out. If I was fishing by myself in the permanent there were quite a few holes unused so I figured why not throw a few down! I did run into a tangle now and again but that's because a wily fish decided to make a run for it and happened to get around one of my closer weeds.

When out in the portable it's fun to scheme how to position them around your fishing spot, trying to figure out the best pattern to bring the fish into your lure. A lot of the lakes I fish around this area don't have a lot of structure so it's nice to be able throw a little of it down the hole to maybe help level the playing field a little. wink.gif

Not sure if you've been to the Reel Weed HSOforum yet, but they show some video and offer some ideas on how to set your structure. Reel Weeds

I took a 1st and a 2nd place finish in 2 panfishing tourneys this winter with the help of Reel Weeds! I forgot them at another tourney and got smoked; turns out the 1st and 2nd place finishers during that tourney were using reel weeds.

Reel Weeds are the Reel Deal. There's been much speculation over the past couple years, but time and time again I've heard success stories, and I've seen 1st hand that they help put more fish on the ice.

Blaine Bob- they come wiht their own bobber and line. You can suspend them as well Crappies dig that!...

The only store I know that has them is Thorne Brothers.

as for how you put them out.. thats the fun part... I have done so many different shapes and such... fun to see which seems to draw them in best.. I have 8 now...

Not a bad idea...

To be real honest... I thought they were a joke when I first saw them myself... It wasn't until the first time I used them that I became a believe... myself and Paul Waldowski had about 8 of them to try before they hit the market.. We took them up to Upper Red Lake and fished with a bunch of guys... He and I had bar far.. BY FAR The best fishing... Them Weeds held the roaming schools of crappie and walleye longer and we were able to catch more fish!

I am very interested in these! sold in any stores?

I was at the sportsmans warehouse store in St. Cloud today and they had both the 5 pack and the 2 pack of the reel weeds. I know I've seen them in some smaller bait shops too. Just look around and you should be able to find them.

I am going to buy some to try this winter, I fish alot of crappies and perch in large basins so I think something a little different may give me a little more consistancy in between the schools passing through.....I cant wait to use them for myself for once.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
