Help with Sights ?

Guys I need advice here...I am a very experienced gun deer hunter, this summer I decided to take this to the next level and get into archery hunting and let the addiction begin.

So long story short I bought a Diamond (Bowtech) Edge package, it's the chick 50lb. package that's all set up. Well I'm having problems with the sights, It came with Cobra plastic sights that a pin busted shortly after purchase. Upgraded to a metal Cobra sights (you would have thought I learned the first time)later on. Before season I put in tons of time with the sights and had tennis ball patterns at 10, 20 and 30 yards.

All of the sudden the 10 is still on, but the 20 and 30 are off shooting high. If I aim the 20 and 30 pins 2 inches below the target I'm back to my great groupings again in the bullseye. I can't move the 20 and 30 yard pins up high enough to get this corrected because they push against the pin above it. Left and right movement is dead on still.

So here's the question(s): Is this due to the cold weather does this effect your bow and sights? How do I correct this at this late in the game because there is plenty of archery hunting left? Do I can these sights and go with new ones next year, if so what brand ( I don't need a cadillac but I want the chevy brand of sights that work)?

I don't have anyone in my family that archery hunts so I would appreciate any advice on this that I can get

If I had to guess, its something you are doing different. Cold really diesnt affect a bow much if at all... However it affects us. We wear more clothing and that often times affects out anchor point. Unless you have changed the weight of the bow, your pins should not be closer together...

As for next year, you may consider a couple of things.. If you are stacking pins that close, maybe not have a 10-20-30.. have only a 10-30 and gap shoot the 20?... I shoot 15-30 for my pins...as most of my stands are set up for 15 yard shots...

Your other option would be to get a different site... I have a copper john dead nuts. Which has 3 different rails to put pins so I can stack 3 pins on top of each other if needed... with no gap at all.. It sound like your sight only has the one rail to put pins...

Along Deitz line, you can get a .29 or a .19 pins. But if they are touching(wow) then change the yardage they're set at. (I use 20, 30, 40 yards for my pins.)

Did you change the poundage, 40-50 or 50-60?

Did your form change?

Did you add or remove any bells and whisles?

The poundage has remained at 45 pounds, the quiver is still on it (plus when I orginally sighted it in I shot with quiver on, no arrows in it), plus I shot with a t-shirt on to sight in. Put the hunting clothes on and it shot right on again. This summer the pins were very tight at that time too. You can barely see light through the 10 and 20 pin. The connecting bases (where you put the allen wrench) are real fat.

The stands I hunt could produce a shot all the way from 5 yards to 30 yards.

I'm wondering can I buy a cobra fiber optic sight(skinny base and skinny pin) and put it on a Cobra sight that was manufacturered for the fatter pin base? Cabela's couldn't tell me that. This might give me some room to move the pin.

This why I am struggling with this, I have checked and re-checked everything from clothes to anchor point because this is a new ball game compared to a gun.

Welcome to archery - you're gonna love it! A lot of sound advice already mentioned...

The cold shouldn't have any ill effects on your equipment. Did you recently switch from field points to broadheads? That could change your groupings. Like mentioned... bulky clothing or a face mask could change your anchor point. You typically won't notice the changes until you get further away at 20 & 30 yds. I would also consider eliminating your 10 yd pin and go with a 20 & 30 or as Dietz did - a 15 & 30. Might be an inch or 2 high at 10 yds but it'll give you the room to move that 20 up where it belongs.

The cobra pins pretty much all utilize the same square base - what you may want to try is to keep your durapins and upgrade to a dual-track sight. Do yours have the coiled fiberoptic? I've got an old Cobra Sidewinder with a few broken pins I could send ya to try out. You could put your pins on it and give it a whirl.

It's not too late - lots of season left. Make the change... shoot some arrows with your hunting clothes and face mask on until your confident and go hunt!
