Big Blue, where would you go?

From the little research I've done, big blues are caught when the water is cold. With that in mind and if one wanted a good shot at a big fish....

Where and when would you go?

I just might need a get away this offseason wink.gif

The James River out in Virginia would be a very cool trip. I'd fly out and spend a few days to make it worth it tho.

Sure would be nice to hit the Cumberland River again too. That would be a comparable drive to Selkirk from the twin cities. I don't think Moyer lives in Clarksville,TN. anymore and I have not been able to get ahold of him.

Dtro- Not sure when you last talked to Bob, but he recently got back from Truman Reservoir in MO. Between Bob and his brother they caught 49 Blues in two days of fishing. They didn't catch anything big, but I would imagine there is some bigguns in there.

Darren - I found this in the October-November 2005 issue of In-Fisherman magazine in the "Adventures Timely Hot Spots" feature.

"Lake of the Ozarks: Missouri"

Blue Catfish

Late November and December are prime for catches of blue cats from 20 to 50 pounds, with a shot at larger fish.

I've been thinking about trying for Blues myself. This does sound interesting. I did a quick mapquest to St Louis, MO and it is 545 miles and about 9hrs+ from my home in Stillwater. Sounds like a nice drive straight through and plenty of time to get some fishing in. Might just have to run this by the Bride.

If you figure to fish 2 or 3 days then go to the

James river. More big fish in a small area. Pick

decent weather days in Dec or Jan.

With tides and everything I would reccomend a

guide. Not just tricky navigation but as tide

changes so does current--and fish location.

It is possible to go up a creek during high tide

and be stranded there till tide comes back in crazy.gif

But there are lots of large blue cats to catch.

I have already checked with peoples schedules

on the river in order to plan out trips.
