MEA weekend

Recommended Posts

To all pheasant hunters out this weekend with the added numbers of hunters, please remind everyone of basic safety when out in the field. Make sure if you have posters at the end of standing corn or other areas that all shots are well above the horizon. I was out this past weekend and got "peppered" nothing serious thanks to heavy clothing and distance, but just the same.

Shoot straight, shoot safe and enjoy the weekend. It is a great time to take a youth out hunting.

Here is some more good advice. If the land is posted, and you don't own it or lease it....DON'T go on it. I am so sick of finding people on our land. We have gotten the police, DNR and everyone else involved. We have 340 acres of CRP land that boarders a waterfowl production area. Opening weekend 8 people were on our land and had started before 9am might I add. The land is posted every 50 yards, so I know they couldn't have missed that. Again this weekend we brought out 2 guests, and we kept finding dead birds on our property. They were filled with shot. Someone had obviously shot a bunch of birds and left them there. I don't get it. Why do people think that is ok? Any suggestions? By the way, we limited out in 2 hours with 5 guys this weekend. Not bad after we found 3 dead birds that had been shot in the last couple days.

Could the dead birds be from the WPA. Meaning somebody shot them on the WPA and they didn't die unitl they were on your land. A wounded rooster can go a long way before he expires.

I'll second the idea of wounded birds making it a long distance before they expire. I've rocked three birds already this year that have managed to continue flying well over 200 yards, I broke a leg on two of them as well. Since I haven't found any of these, I'd like to think they made it, but it certainly isn't likely.
