Marcum..Mark em?

I'd like to spark some interest with this one. I totally disagree with you on the Marcum vs. Vex. I was out last weekend and was fishing an angeleye and a small moon glow. The only thing I had to do is change the gain on the vex-18 and had a great time catching huge bulls and crappies.
NICE TRY WITH THE MARCUM SELL wink.gif

Actually I was just makin' fun of the name, wondering if the pun was intended! I have never seen one in action myself. If I didn't have a fl-8 that worked just fine for the last 8 years, then mabye I would test them out.

Work at the Gander Mountain in Duluth and we had just gotten the Marcum in for the holidays. I never got to test it on the ice, but played with it many times in the store. Needless to say it is exactly like the old colorpoint except that you can zoom I believe with 3 different zoom settings. My 2cents anyway.

CAPTAIN BRK
I agree totally, I still have the old fl-8 and won't trade it for nothing. I too have been toying around with the Marcums and quite don't know about the differences on the colorpoint, but are the same except the settings on them. The interference factor while fishing around other units seems to be the key? I think it is a take off of the colorpoint units and we all know what happened there.

Yep, yep, Yep,
this just sold me on the vex. I wanted a vex in the first place, but then started looking at the marcum,
glad you brought up that problem "When fishing around others"
Seems to me I read in a different thread that someone had this problem with the Marcum already, could be wrong, I'll have to go check it out.
But anyway, it doesn't matter anymore,
my mind is made up.

I fished the marCum and FL-18 right next to each other. With the IR on both interference wasn't an issue once they warmed up.

Don't discount the MarCum LX-3, it has advantages. The FL-18 has advantages too. After one usage, I would give the MarCum the very slight advantage. Of course, the FL-18 user with me now wants the MarCum LX-3, he highly prefers the MarCum LX-3 over the FL-18 now.

I'm a long time Vex user. It will take more than one use to convince me. I need to test it in different situations.

When we're ready we will give our test reports in another thread. We won't do it in this thread right now. Not enough time for me to do the report justice.

Rick - you cant go wrong with either unit. My Fl-18 with the 12 degree ducer will be getting a work out shortly. My LX-3 thus far has been perfect, I.R., the adjustable zoom window, display, charger and softpack are great. Looking forward to reading your testament. Have a Happy Holiday Season....

I just got some Gander Mtn gift cards for xmas smile.gif yesss! Mabye now I can upgrade flashers. I use my flasher even more in summer than on ice, so i am thinking of going with the fl-18 for the bottom-lock feature, and the brighter display. Isn't the zoom on both units mainly for icefishing?

what say ye?
merry xmas, and...
Set the hook!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
