Sumo Strug Report 10/13/07 (4 pics)

Hit the St. Croix Friday evening spilling into Saturday day. The fish came in spurts, but our best fishing was the hour before and after sunrise. Crawlers, crawler / fathead sandwich, and shad all caught fish. We ended the day with exactly 20 sturgeon and maybe a dozen sheepies.

It’s something new every trip right… Well, our new deal this trip was the 11 mud puppies that bless us. Can’t believe I use to play with those things when I was a kid. Whofta things have changed.

I’m really liking the 3/0 gamu octopus hooks. 8” leader, 2oz weight. 30-32FOW

Beat my personal longest sturgeon twice today.

58” - 42lbs

54” – 30lbs

Took two Sturg newbies out and both got into decent fish.

Lamprey.. The 54”er had two lamprey on it and those were the only two we had all day. Both were lucky as they tore off when the fish made a hard thrash in the net.

Tags.. We got 3 today, however on the 58”er the tag had fallen off, or was removed. The stainless steel wire was still in place, but the little tag was missing.

What a great day and evening to be on the water. Only got down to mid 40s at night and it was over 75 during the day. No wind either. Pleasure boats were out, but that’s expected.

Going again tonight with Thiem and crazyice!

Fishing hunting is one thing (staying awake), but the drive home is another thing all together!

Nice fish guys!

I used the crawler/flat head tech. on the Croix and got my last fat head of the year on that presentation! Who would of thunk it!

I wish that mine could have ended as well as yours did Ty, I truly believe that I missed 3 seperate 30+ lb fish, but there is always next year, and we know of atleast one good spot! Plus I made a mental note of a spot we saw a few weeks ago out 'eye and sauger fishing.
