Deep water camera question

I am looking at getting a camera and a few of the clearer lakes around here are quite deep. Some of them pushing 100 feet or so. I havent fished that deep before as the lakes in the area I used to live at were not that deep. How many of you use the camera below a depth of say 40-50 feet. The marcum I like only has 50 ft of cable where the aqua-vu has 100 feet of cable. Is it really needed? Can you even see that well that far down even if the water is relativly clear? Like I said, I have never had lakes around that were this deep so I dont even know how much of the time you find fish that deep (excluding trout that I won't be targeting).

I have a 100FT cable on my Aqua Vu and use that much on occasion out here on the big lake.. Mainly for targeting whitefish... Mostly from 50 to 80 FOW, but with current, at times more is needed.. I can see fairly well, say three to five feet at times... Works slick for catching those finicky whities..

Also, at times in deep clear lakes, walleyes move deep.. Summer and winter.. 40 feet on occasion in some lakes I fish. Can see em good with the camera.

What MarCum camera is this? The ones I see have a minimum of 60' of cable to a max of 75'.. The VS 460 and 560 came with the option of getting 120' of cable with it. I have never used my VS 250 over 40' of water but was more than impressed with the picture quality, excellent choice for the budget ice fisherman..

I was looking at a Marcum vs350 on the Thorne Bros websie. At the top of the description it said 50ft of cable, later in the middle it said 65ft. I emailed them at thorne and they said its 50ft. I like the 7" monitor for 200 bucks where its about 270 for the 7" screen aqua-vu with 100' of cable. Just trying to decide which one to go with.

K Dawg that is a very nice deal there and like Big Johnny's VS350 it comes with 65' of cable... I'm sure MarCum designed those Cabela's cams gvg_uwec and there are very good reviews on it as well. Looks like the shipping would be about $14 but I didn't check to see if the Thorne Bros. one has free shipping or not...

Yea, Cabelas has a lot of deals like that. I got the camera for 20 bucks off regular and I also got the Lowrance X67C for 280, regular 300. If I would have bought it through lowrance, it'd been 320+. Little things like that is what I like to keep an eye out for.

gvg_uwec,

How deep to you plan to go? If you are interested you should check out the Aqua-Vu's with the explorer lighting. Tested them a bunch last winter and even this summer. Great deep water and night time illumination. They are selling the camera only as an Internet only deal on Aquavu.com Or you can get them with a monitor with the DT7.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
