Morson Cell Phone Providers???

Recommended Posts

What compnay does everyone in Morson get their cell phones from? I have a Verizon cell phone and can't use it up there but friends of ours from the area are using their cell phones at my kitchen table!?!? confused.gif I called Verizon and they told me that they don't have a contract to use cell towers with the cell company in that area. Any info would be great?

I am in the same boat as you MuskieDowg. Got Verizon also and same thing. I show a full signal but my phone says "Initial programming needed!". Cant call out or receive calls. My dad has a cell up there and I want to say Thunder Bay Mobility but I could be wrong. He either got it out Rainy River or Fort Frances. He gets pretty coverage out on the lake. He called home one time from Sugar Point on the west side of Big Island. My phone works around Sioux Narrows and Kenora area. Good luck!

MuskieDawg,

Alltel is the provider on the tower in Morson. My phone works great up there but the roaming charges will kill ya.

I'd be willing to let you use the land-line for a nominal price.

See you on the 18th.

I have a Verizon phone I get nothing along with all of my buddies that are using Verizon. My wife has a Sprint cell phone and I get full signal using her phone from the cabin. Problem is they charge you $.70 a minute.

I spoke with Verizon they stated they needed to add a couple of dialing plans to my phone to get it to work. I am heading up this weekend if it helps (not optimistic) I will post what they did.

The cellphone provider in the Morson area is Thunder Bay Mobility. They are out of Thunder Bay and serve there as well as west to Fort frances and Nestor Falls. I have a place on Rainy and use them as the tower is close. Most locations they only have analog service, although there happens to be a digital tower also in Morson so there they have both. They will not roam with most US suppliers but will with some. When I have a bunch of guys up to the place about one phone out of three will roam, the others won't work. As stated roaming costs are high. (Google) Thunder Bay Mobility for more information. They do have a cheap plan for 15$ a month if you need coverage regularly in that area.

Thanks for all the info!

Such generosity marknamy! smirk.gif I'm wondering if there's a prepaid cell phone that's possible to use up there. There's no monthy service charge with them, you just buy the minutes and use them like a calling card. I don't know? Probably not available in that neck of the woods. I'd like to have SOMETHING up there. See ya on the 18th. Oh! And I'll be bringing a new chew toy for Hally, my 3 month old vizsla's making her virgin voyage.

I've tried three cell phones with no luck (Verizon, Singular and something else.) My wife's el-cheapo Tracphone worked to call from Morson to Minnesota, but would not work to call from Morson to Morson. Go figure. I'd love to drop my cabin land line and save $30 a month but not yet, not until they open the tower to more users.

Thunderbay Mobilty has various prepaid plans. They also have a vender in Morson who can activate your existing cell phone. Check their site for more info. tbaytel.net

I was in Morson last weekend. I have Verizon and just thought I would turn it on and I was surprised that my phone works now. Had to call my folks just to make sure it works ( they live in Morson) Not sure what the roaming charges will be but its nice to know that it works up there. Might need to call someone to bring more bait this winter. I didnt do anything different to my phone either. Just thought I would let you Verizon users now this. Maybe yours wont work but mine did. Happy turkey day!
