Starter woes?

I haven't run the boat for a couple weeks...150 Yammy OB, when I hit the key I get a whirring sound, won't crank at all, like something isn't "catching". It ran fine a couple weeks ago, and it's just been sitting on the trailer since. The battery is new and fully charged. Any guesses, or is it shop time? Not overly mechanical, btw:(

I would say starter gear not engaging. Try to spray some WD40 or similar lubricant on the shaft where the gear slides (between flywheel and starter gear), you might have to pry it a little by hand to start moving it.

What happens is your starter motor spins but gear doesn't raise high enough to engage flywheel

You got a little old grease there, with the colder temps its stiffer and not letting gear fly up the shaft.

The WD_40 loosen it right up.
