WallEYES
There is a picture on page 6 on the tub type mount and the stand alone type prototypes. I sent Rick better pictures than what is on page 6, I think?

Crappieman
Rick when do you expect any tub mounts? I have recieved the stand alone. Very useful. When I got I realized I have the wooden model I got last signed by T-bone himself. I got this one at Wayzata Bait. This is now in a glass case. The fiber glass model is better. Guest
Crappieman.......You actually have an original? Thanks! Wayzata Bait was the ONLY place to get one last winter too. They didn't really display them properly and most just looked and vowed to go home and build one in their garage workshop. The new ones kind of leave the "craft show" mentality behind. I can hook you up with a tub mount, I have only a few left. Rick can get you in touch with me. Can't post any links here...........T

Just mounted the tub mount models to my other otter sled...lookin good. Bought some new rechargable batteries for the video cam for some decent pictures for the site. Still alive in E.R. Guest
Guys....I'm sorry about the supply of Rock 'n Reels this year. After three years of R and D and now trying to get the supply cranked up, we have found out what we need to do to get things going. There may be some more available before it's time to get off the ice again so just stay tuned here and be patient. This won't happen next winter. WallEYES......See you tomorrow after school. Hope you are able to stay awake in class!....J-Man.....Thanks! We have alot of fun with them when the fishing gets tough.........T
Scenic
I have had a chance to use this product just a few times this season and found them to be a very helpful tool. For those that were lucky enough to get them already I am sure you are finding the same results. For those of you who have not had the chance to purchase or use them yet please be patient and keep trying. This is one of them products that was a hit when it entered the public and a demand was created. I am very confident that the manufactures of this product will have more available as soon as possible. They have done a great job in perfecting this item.JeffScenic Tackle
WallEYES
T-BONE/DUFFMAN/GISSERT See ya tommorrow den! Lots of interesting stuff to talk about... new products on my mind....ice anchors for portable shelters ...shelter carriages for on moving vehicles (trucks, snowmachines, wheelers) or foot travel....new jig molds for this year... a new shelter called the hip boot hut... and finnally found solid carbon graphite rod blanks... cheap....right in our own back yard/noses. I don't know why I did not think of this earlier, It's there and looks very promising. Lots of product. Very interesting.SCREWEDGOOSE If you have something you want to say to me personally lets get together, but one word of advice, pack a lunch first, your going to need it. BLACKJACK
How about giving me some advice on using this thing? To me it doesn't work as good as a well balanced bobber! Last week I was fishing some crappies, there were quite a few small ones, so I took my bobber off and put it on the tub mount rod holder. I'd see the rod tip go down but the fish would spit the bait before I could grab the rod and set the hook. I ended up putting the icebuster bobber back on and using the rocknreel as a glorified rod holder. Any advice?
Gissert
Blackjack -You may need to move your reel a bit on your pole to get a better balance point.I have moved mine back some, and my hooking rate was much improved.
Guest
Blackjack......As with anything new to you, it takes a little experimentation to "get the hang" of it. I understand your point but like Gissert said, it's getting the balance right for the situation. In your case, you were fishing smaller crappies. To me, they are just like perch in alot of ways-very impatient. When fish are biting that lightly or just nipping the bait, the balance needs to be more towards the hole as opposed to more towards the reel. If you experiment a little, or maybe, used a longer whippy rod in that situation, your hookups would increase. Trust me on that, I did alot of field research! Feel free to keep the questions coming. If I don't learn something everyday, it's a wasted day...........T
BLACKJACK
Thanks T-bone for the response. Maybe you're right, the small crappies weren't the best examples to try it on, I just thought I'm getting lots of action, lets see how this thing works. And after being a diehard bobber angler for years, maybe old habits die hard. Going up to Red next week, already have the unit packed, will try it up there. Thats whats nice about the ice buster bobber, you can go back and forth to bobber/no bobber in a hurry. So just to make sure I'm using it right, do you put the rod into the groove balanced in front of the reel or behind the reel? By behind I mean the handle side of the rod/reel. Do you try to balance it at a horizontal line or with the rod tip closer to the hole?[This message has been edited by BLACKJACK (edited 01-16-2003).]
Guest
I use my Rock N Reel on my dead stick rod. I always have an active rod and the other sits on the R&R. I would suggest not using a split shot with the R&R. This will allow you to detect the smallest bites, especially the ones that tip the rod up. With a split shot on your line it will be much harder to detect the light biters. Scott Steil
Guest
Blackjack........The reel has to be behind the peg in order for it to be a counterbalance for the front of the rod and what you have down the hole. Bobbers are ok too but I stopped using them. I know the ice buster is a good thing for the reasons you describe. I have a couple myself but I use them in the summertime. I fished up at Red once already this year for those big crappies. It was still pretty slow, but when they did come through, they came from the bottom (only 12-13' there) and caused the rod to swing up instead of go down towards the hole. No problem with hook ups at all but those fish are so heavy, that anything but the hook in the roof of their mouth allowed them to get off before you got them to the hole. Their sheer weight would rip the paper mouth and no way to keep them hooked even with steady pressure since the shaking they were doing was enough to allow them to get off. I think a long shanked hook type jig might produce better there, something that goes into their mouth a little further. And they aren't afraid to inhale a pretty good sized minnow. Those 3" emeralds were the ticket. Forget about the Rosy Reds-the perch came up six feet to snag them guys. The danged perch up there are murder and small. Catching those walleyes by mistake was fun but they are only a nuisance when you can't keep them....Good luck........T

BLACKJACK
Tried your suggestions last night, no sinker, moved the reel back to get a better balance, and the standalone RocknReel worked lots better, missed a few fish but caught quite a few. Heading to Red on Thursday so hopefully it will get a workout!!!
