Im Crushed

Bassboy1645

Question

Bought a 2000 GMC jimmy from my parents yesterday...I think the tranny went today. It clunked and fell out of gear and it ran fine but on the next drive an hr later it wouldnt shift ( 2 1/2 rpms at 20 mph) and no reverse. It makes a werid whinning noise underneath. What do you think it is??!! I dont have any money ( im in college) and Its practically brand new. Im starting to think theres no shuch thing as a good truck anymore... frown.gif

I wish I had good news for you, but my sister's family had one of those ('99) that was nothing but problems. Transmission, ball joints, U Joints, transfer case, brakes, it had it all go out, and multiple times over about 4 years. Maybe your parents can help you out by taking it to the nearest crusher and being rid of the problem. Sorry about the bad timing!

Don't get me started! grin.gif

These guys are right. We see a fair amount of transmission failures on these as well as ball joints, axle seals, front diffs, oil cooler lines, intake gaskets, a/c compressors, fuel pumps, fuel pressure regulators, turn signal switches, door hinge bushings, front wheel bearings / speed sensors, serp belt tensioners, water pumps, and the list continues.

Its not that there isn't a good vehicle out there, you just happen to have one with a high failure rate of a lot of its components.

Great....But You see I bought it from my mom and step dad and they have it for a yr no problems and they bought it from their best friends who are mechanics and they never had a problem. It was professionally serviced and maintained more then required. Plus kelly blue book puts that vechile/condition around the 4500 mark. Mom and dad let it go for 2 grand. WHAT MORE COULD A COLLEGE KID WANT OR ASK FOR?? All through High school I had lemon vehicles that rapped the Little money I had and then some. So I guess you can see where im coming from. Sorry If I seem to be negitive about buying a used veichle. At leats it happend at home and not on the road back to school. I had to take my pickup back to school for awhile so Hopefully its just a tranny and nothing else until I get farther down the line with some money to work with.
