Hunting the wind ???

When the wind blows like it is today does this become a show stoper for anyone? Do you see a decrease in there movment? I will hunt in the wind , but at times it is hard to get into it fearing they are not moving.

Do you find it better to be in the woods or on the edges in the wind? Just looking for some of your comments and how you deal with the wind.

I believe that the deer become very cautious in high winds. One can watch them wander about in the woods and they seem to be much more alert with higher winds. I would assume that the noise that these winds cause along with the extra branches and leaves moving around will make them very wary.

No, it doesnt stop me from hunting but I will probably move a little deeper into the woods as it seems the deer move a little later and dont appear at the field edges until almost pitch dark.

This is only what I have found over the years. Go hunting and hope for the best. One never knows what might stroll by next.

I guess I've found that when it's really windy, the deer like to stay bedded down for some reason, I have seen a few move around to watering holes and such in the early A.M. When making deer drives etc... on windy days, I've found the deer to be in the thick cover/swamps areas and also if you can find a nice thick grove of Pines they like to bed down in those areas, you can try to stalk them Upwind in the pines for a quick shot. I agree with HL on this one. When you're watching them in high winds they appear much more skittish. Certainly doesn't stop them from moving though. My first bow kill was a pope and young shot in an evening with 20-30 mph winds.

ONe nice thing with the wind is that it covers your noise a bit more and also disperses your scent faster. I have heard of people still hunting with their bow and arrow in the wind too. That would be kind of a rush huh.....

High winds are great for stalking in standing corn as the deer cannot hear one coming. Just stay downwind of them.

C&A I have seen the same thing when it is windy like today, the deer seem not to move much, especially down here by St. Cloud area. Seems like when I went to Bemidji State though that the wind wouldn't stop the deer from moving but they just moved later than usuall and seems like they become very nocturnal in central part of the state when the wind is blowing like this. But I am going to sit tonight anyways especially if it calms down like they said right before dark. Had a big buck (10-12 pointer) come in 2 nights ago at 10 yards, but it was very dark so no chance at a shot, but thats hunting. So I know he is around just gotta be there at the right time now, good luck guys! Also read in the Outdoor News that bowhunters took an all-time high of deer harvested opening weekend so keep it up all.
