I'm guessing this weather is gonna turn the bite off this weekend.

Early this week (Sun thru Wed) the weatherman was predicting stable weather thru Sunday. I was happy. Then out of nowhere we get hit with storms Thursday and Friday, followed by Sunny weather Saturday. (i.e., low pressure to high pressure system.)

Correct me if I am wrong, but what I desribed above is what usually turns the bite off, correct?

Well this weekend I have a once per year open water fishng trip to a small "private" lake where, weather permitting, the fishing is fast and furious.

My best guess is that our most effective presentation for the northerns and bucketmouths we will be targeting will be bobber style fishing rather that casting lures. That's how it was last year while we fished this lake in the rain and sun the next day. I threw lures all weekend, and my buddies used shiners under a bobber. They averaged 9 fish for the weekend, while I caught 3.

What does all this mean? Nothing. I am just disappointed in Mr. Weatherman. I was all fired up Wed night, only to be saying to myself Thursday morning "what the HE double hockey sticks is going on with the weather"?

I would try a variety of different presentations. Start with fast offerings and what worked in the past, and if that doesn't work, switch up to slower presentations. Maybe a good time to try some suspending Husky Jerks/Shad Raps, eh? Another technique that is known to work on finicky fish is drop-shotting. I haven't really had much sucess on this personally because I only recently started experimenting with it, but it's worth a try. Let us know how you do.

This system is being pushed by a warm front, so I don't think the bite will be affected due to weather. Sat and Sun are going to be warm and sunny so the sun may make the W's head for cover. The pike and the SMB will be on the lookout for a meal.

Go slow with a jig. Any color will work as long as it's Pumpkinseed.

Normally I start out fast and if nothing slow down with jig and plastics.

Last time out on Lake X in the metro:

1 on topwater frog - lil guy but chubby. Did I just say that? and the rest (all 3 more) on a lil jig. However, 1 was 19 1/4" and the other's were lil guys too. 4 hours and 4 fish - missed a nice one to. Not too shabby with that big fish.

On Saturday my buddy and I drove up to Vermillion for the day. Bright sunny day with windy (20 MPH) conditions. Vermillion had some rough conditons with the weather system that moved through. We got started about 8:00 am choosing a usually good spot off a main channel island in Frazier Bay. Tried deep water (30) and found nothing until we move up to 15 feet. They found fish all over the place. Continually caught W's till the bite quit about 2:30. We took two limits of 16 inchers. We were fishing jigs and minnows slow and verticle. This is the same spot and depth my buddy fished a week ago with the same results. I guess there was no effect caused by the weather.

Here's my report for a small private lake north of Brainerd.

I concur the weather did not affect the bit. We fished from 11 am to 7 pm saturday, with the bite really turing on an hour before dusk.

I'll have to remember that warm fronts do not have the same effect as cold fronts.
