Purchased a pontoon with a 2000 Mercury 40hp 4 stroke motor. First 4 stroke outboard I've owned, need to change the oil filter. Couldn't find one at Fleet Farm or Cabelas (they could order one though). Would I have to go to a dealership to find this oil filter, or do some stores carry them? Any idea what the filter number would be?

Also need a new inline fuel/H2O separator filter. It's the screw on cannister type that looks just like an oil filter. Haven't had luck finding that either. Cabalela's again said they could order it, but just wondering where I might find one in stock instead of waiting a week.

You could try a dealer. Also another option is a NAPA store.

A Amsoil dealer would have ther filters you could use. Otherwise whatever dealer that carries that brand motor in your area can get them.

You need to know the engine model number in addition to the hp size to look up the part number.

I ended up getting them at a dealer for $11 per filter. I was just hoping boat filters had gone mainstream enough to be able to purchase them at somewhere other than a dealership.

Napa always had the filter for my f115! And my atvs, but it wasnt any cheeper, just more convenient at the time, I use oe when I can!
