ZDavidMiller
Where to look?In your experiences, where do you look for buck sign, mainly rubs. What types of cover and terrain features. I am hunting in an area that consists of wetland cattails and bramble with islands of upland Decid/Con mix, bordering two bean fields, with little terrain features or elevation for that matter. I am not seeing much where I hunt in terms of rubs or scrapes. I know there is at least 3 mature bucks in the vicinity, I have seen them. But I cannot find a single scrape or rub. Any help appreciated.I will post an ariel.
ZDavidMiller
You can see approximately where my stands are, if you have any ideas for me about my stand placement your input would be much appreciated!
sparcebag
Its a bit early for seeing rubs, scrapes.I hunt in areas simular to yours, rubs & scrapes start showin up here late Sept. Oct,some scattered earlier than that but few.Are your stands on or near well used trails? A pic does'nt show much but land lay its the trails where they move that shows the most.I've noticed in my area deer use the edge of the woods most, and I'd think its to avoid insects, and yet have trees to escape to.I see the most deer in the evening and their comming out of cattails, where ya never would think they are! When lookin for rubs look for 2-4 inch trees rubs can be scattered,Scrapes will be on or near used trails, where theres doe traffic, look for low hanging branches with a circular cleared spot below it. Where are you hunting?? What town is close?
WaveWacker
As mentioned, for the most part, rubs and less so scrapes are really just getting fired up. For me, the no brainer is going to be on the interface of a woods and a field. Another spot that I'll see rubs is on the edge between any upland type woods and the swamp (cattails).
