When to cut rhubarb

Back when I was a smaller person, my grand mother always said to never cut rhubarb in a month that has an R in it. I have always gone by that but forgot to make my last cutting before labor day. I have a bunch of nice stalks out there and would like to freeze it for winter but that old saying keeps ringing in my head. Anyone got any thoughts??

I would let it go til next year
