Northland Sportsman
I have a '84 suzuki 185 quad that recently started to die when it gets warmed up. It seems to start and run fine for a few minutes then just dies out and won't start until left to cool down a bit. What do you think it could be, carb, electrical? I am just not sure where to start looking. Thanks for any help you can offer!
Chris Haley
I'm voting for the electrical side. When it warms up things expand and then separate, thus losing electrical contact and shutting down. It's like a motor running fine at idle and missing at high speed due to bad coils. Unfortunately when it cuts out completely, it sounds like "brain box" ignition control problem. Could be big bucks. I'm also not a mechanic so I hope I'm wrong. ChuckN
I have seen this happen with a primary ignition coil, possibly in the stator? Something to check...

Dave
After it warms up, check valve clearance.
Mnfisher
Sounds like the "stator" thing to me! Had trouble with my Suzuki Eiger and that was the problem! Good Luck!
