How may decoys does everyone typically set out? Over the last two weekends, we have had roughly 5 dozen setup. Typically we setup some sort of "J" pattern. We have had many flocks fly over, however we are having trouble getting them to come in. Are we using too many decoys?

Also, does everyone use calls all the time? Of our group there are only two decent callers, but not great. Even though they are not the best, do you think they should still call all the time or not?

Thanks

If you are on water the geese do not call much at all. If in the field the more you call the more they respond.

Right now they are still in their family groups from the Spring so if I was going to put out that many decoys I would leave some space and group them a bit. At least then the flocks can see it is locals and might come in to see what their buddies have found to eat.

Put out some family groups and make sure to set up with the wind... i try to stay away from patterns until later season when its just a massive group with a u shape with the x in the opening making very sure to use the wind. Secondly you said the guys that call are almost good? I have thought i was almost good for a long time and i have learned more and more buying all these 150 dollar calls and i still think i am almost good at calling... if these guys really dont sound like geese or something have them do the stuff that does sound like a goose and try varying the usage of the calling...Also i spend ALOT of time camoing my blind up to the last detail where can't see hardly any of the khaki color from my blind and it looks exactly like the field i am in...
