Roofer
Here are some pictures of a roof we recently replaced due to hail damage. The shingles were 12 years old and the hail was golf ball size.

311Hemi
While I think I see some of the damage, it might be nice to edit the pictures and circle all the damage shown in the photos.

Yes, you're right. These are just a few snap shots I took before we started taking the shingles off. There were plenty more, along with alot on the fascia's we replaced. Some of the hail marks are obvious. The others are just the black marks where the shingles are missing the granules. This house had marks everywhere. The house next door had hail also (of course), but their ins. company(state farm) denied them(probably because they didn't have a contractor there to show them the damage. These marks show up more and more with rain. After winter is normally the easiest. The broken part of the shingle will let water inside the layers of the shingle. It will then freeze and thaw multiple times during winter and the granules will fall off. A homeowner has 2 years from the day of damage(the storm) to make a claim. It shows up more and more with time. Some adjusters(not all) just don't know how to spot it yet, but are getting better.Experience means more than classroom tests and laboratory research. I have seen hail, and what it can do to a house or building.
