KOTTKE
Had my daughter out for her first ever hunt this weekend. About 7pm had one wolf come in to the bait pile. What a thrill for her but wondered what the bears would think of this. 45 minutes later a nice bear comes in and keeps moving quickly around the bait pile. Hoping the bear would stand still I told her to wait for the shot, needless to say it ran off never to be seen again. Sun morning had 4 wolves right under us, no bears at all on Sunday, nothing on Monday either. Wondering if anyone else has had experience with this, do the bears tolerate the wolves?? or do they clear out. This bear was in the 225# range, I would not think the wolves would bother it to much. Hoping to get back up next week if the baits start getting active again.

sakazulu
Articles on bear I've read seem to indicate a bear has no other "enemy" in the woods, other than hunters. Your experience makes me wonder if wolves follow bear for food sources, like meat, and I sure don't hear of too many bear being killed in their dens. It sure is a good question and my experience of having wolves around me at dark, loading a bear in to my truck a few hundred yards from the kill site comes to mind.
