Shiners Suckers or Flatheads for eyes

I would prefer rainbows when you can get them,...really depends on the body of water your fishing,....I have caught 'eyes on all the above,..even crappie minnows.

My most memorable catch last year was a crappie minnow and the smallest swedish pimple I could find, dead stickin' with my noodle rod! Result; 25.5" eye!

We also caught one of our few slot fish while fishing for pike with 8" suckers! That slot walleye came out of the hole spitting blood because it didn't know what to do with that big of a catch!

All in all stick with fatheads, rainbows and shiners, you should do fine! Shiners are tough to keep alive,..best bet for larger bait would be rainbows or smaller suckers.

Fatheads or crappie minnows when jigging. Shiners or larger fatheads on tip-ups. I've used suckers a few times but didn't have as much luck. Hook the minnow through the head whe jiggin and through the back dorsel fin when using tip-ups. When deadsticking I'll use a fathead or medium shiner and hook the minnow through the top dorsel fin as well.

Good Fishin, Matt.
