Guest
yes, i have one and love it.I also have a fl8, fl-18 and clearwater pro.The lx-3 out performs all others in every way.Not saying there is anything wrong with the other units. It was designed after the fl-18 but times three.Power, seperation, zoom everything just a little better.you won't go wrong if you buy one, trust me. Bruce Mosher
Supernorb, What happens to the other Vexilars if they are in close proximity? Does it scramble them, melt them to the ice, etc.? Just curious. Bruce Mosher------------------Bruce Mosher,www.icebusterbobbers.com

we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Rick Posted January 7, 2003 we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Share Posted January 7, 2003 We checked IR performance with FL18s and a MarCum LX-3 last weekend. Even with the IR there was some intereference with the FL-18s regardless if they were next to FL18s only or just the MarCum. It was only a slight interference. The MarCum LX-3 worked pretty much interference free using the IR.The MarCum Display is much crisper and the FL-18 readout is fuzzy. Both units are easily readable in the daylight. The MarCum LX-3 zoom is superior with respect to IR, display, and zoom to the FL-18.It would be nice if the MarCum used green/blue instead of orange, but it's a relatively minor issue. The zoom and IR buttons are a bit small.[This message has been edited by Rick (edited 01-07-2003).]
CNY Tim
Noodlesalad - Forget fishing the LX-3 next to a colorpoint as a prior colorpoint user I had problems fishing next to a FL-8 in deep water 30' to 40' but never had a problem with interference in say less than ten feet. That's why I bought the LX-3 to get the same crisp display as my Colorpoint with added features like IR, adjustable zoom, functional softpack, DCS charging system, etc. I just got my ice box for my FL-18 today and will hit the water with it Friday or Sunday to start comparisons. NoodleSalad
Picked one up. !Awsome! Let's hope it lasts for more than a few years.
CNY Tim
Rick - It is a fascinating unit the LX-3 and if you have sausage fingers the smaller buttons can be a little inconvenient but overall it's still a crisper and cleaner display than the FL-18. Waiting for deep water reports with this unit over 40'... You heard anything yet?
CNY Tim
The LX-3's are selling at Reeds 24 a week that is not a bad clip eh for a first year unit? They'll be around a good long time there built to last and are technically superior to an FL-18. I look at the powerhead and the quality of the casing and the LX-3 is built stronger than the model toy plastic of an FL18. Same cheap case as my FL8 was but brighter decals. Geez for the clams you spend I don't see where the money is going on the FL-18 it aint on looks. Good luck with your LX-3 you made a wise choice. Cyberfish
They dont need to be stronger than the fl-8.those things last forever through much abuse, if the fl18 uses the same plastic, thats a good thing! The extra 100 bucks goos to the brighter display, zoom and bottom lock. Mabye the lx3 is better overall, but don't say the fl18 is a bad buy! Just because you marcum don't mean you catchum ><}}}("< ---><!>

Swill
Well I made my first flasher purchase...a LX3! After hanging out with my vexilar buddies so long I am having a hard time saying "Grab the Marcum..." Instead I say..Grab the vex" Maybe I have been brainwashed by all the sonar these last 10 years So far I used it 2 times and I love it! I wish they made it fit in a 5 gallon pale. When you are towing as much dump as I have things tend to bouce around. Ohh well the soft case is pretty sweet. Good job CYN Tim on your posts..I have read a lot of good things and had no doubts about my purchase.... Swill
Guest
Just began reading the discussions on the LX3 . Some of the other chat forums I've seen have had less than glowing comments about the Marcum, and a certain retailer who chose to promote them more than another model. I own four Vexilars, two on the boat, and two ice packs. If ever there was a confirmed Vex fan it would be me. But when my buddy bought the Marcum, and we have used them side by side. I must admit that the LX3 did things my units couldn't. The most impressive thing was target separation, and the Lx3 seemed to get no interferance, but I did have to move my 18 farther away to make use of its I.R. If I didn't own a Vexilar I would buy the LX3. The ones I've seen on the ice so far have done a good job. sdgordlx
